I should have known--
By the ice in his eye
The vacant looks,
And unreturned greetings.

The stunned glance
From across the room
The uncomfortable silence
Brought forth by a question.

Oh love, so nestled was I
In your calculated moonshine

You made me captive
To his flirty whims
Rejoicing at meaningless signs,
Oblivious to the obvious.

And you warmed me up
With your so sweet demise
For his rejection was so in disguise
That it was unrecognizable.
Kind of like the make-up
Of those girls upon whom
He wouldn't have inflicted their first

The End
