Emily

It was a fragile relationship from the start
I was needy and you were pre-occupied
Then the stars feel as you took your leave
I was devastated and so I blamed myself
We drifted apart amidst a bitter argument
I said some things that you recalled

I had every right to be angry, can’t you see?
My heart was broken by your soft touch
He was there when I wasn’t
I am sure he was everything you ever wanted
But I still had to watch you walk away
when everything was going so well

What would happen if we met in ten years time?
When our lives would be so sublime
We could start again and love each other
the way it was meant to be
Because I swear I will never
look at another woman,
Emily
it ended far too soon

I heard that you want me out of your life
well, even as I cry, the feeling is mutual
we don’t deserve each other, at least not now
Your friends say that you are engaged
but I am sure that was just a lie
was it Emily? Please tell me it’s not true

What happened to when we would just talk?
the evening would fade to the morning
We’d make the same plans over again
Even with all our anger and hatred
in the future we could forget about the past
and we could go back to the way it was

What would happen if we met in ten years time?
When our lives would be so sublime
We could start again and love each other
the way it was meant to be
Because I swear I will never
look at another woman,
Emily
it ended far too soon

The End
