dichotomyMature

Lying among freshly tangled sheets
their love to each other declared
that it was but a strange intimacy
of their true feelings blissfully unaware

She thought she had done her lawful duty
And he believed he had quietly sacrificed
She hoped he would only stop begging
A little variety he thought would be nice

And with that they tabled the conversation
and like other nights left it unsaid
to return for yet another sad encounter
on their disappointing marital bed

She was only doing this to make him happy
He couldn't comprehend her reluctance
protests didn't matter in this old union
so they simply kept up with the pretense

The End
