Cruel City
We took each other’s hands and ran to the station
Garden of Eden before us and the city far behind
Smoke steaming from the train, destiny’s destination
Are we leaving for better or worse?
Are we only leaving ourselves to be hurt?
We tried to live in a utopia that wasn’t ours
Between death and life, dwindling away the hours
We’ll run away with our demons behind us
Our minds made up, this city can only kill love
Let’s leave in the evening light
Clear and free, we can run away
Leaving this city for the last time
Escape the city tonight
We’ll abandon the city for life
Now we’re living a life that’s only makeshift
But it’s better than the city behind
We’re away before we suffered the worst of it
We’re leaving because home is hell bound now
But what circles lay sprawled before us?
There’s nothing left in this city for us anymore
The grey skies and glint of knives continue to haunt
Where can we go, where can we be
We need to leave this cruel city
Let’s leave in the evening light
Clear and free, we can run away
Leaving this city for the last time
Escape the city tonight
We’ll abandon the city for life
