Closing Time

Its closing time soon
so all the patrons make their last order
I’m still sitting here
in the gloom of cigarette smoke
My tears don’t fall
because this whisky made me numb

Thank Christ it didn’t work out
To think I actually believed that her truth
was not just another lie
It’s the same old story
except all that is different
is that the paper moon shines, illuminating my shame

Don’t throw me out yet
I haven’t drowned enough of my sorrows
they keep coming back to haunt me
I’m sure if I could dream
I’d regret ever meeting her

The End
