7. Numbers

One

I’m in bed, alarm clock glows red

Two

I’m standing up, setting down an empty cup

Three

I’m thirsty, I’m thirsting,

… I’m bursting!

Four

I’m walking, I’m balking

Five

I can’t go back in,

 I can stop, can’t begin

Six

I’m standing at the door,

It’s darker inside than it was before

Seven

I’m in the hall again,

Don’t want to stop, don’t want to begin

Eight

My mind is teeming,

I’m dreaming, I’m dreaming

Nine

In the clocks I’m finding,

The gears are grinding

Ten

I’m in

Eleven

I turn to go back, I’m stuck in this track;

I’m a gear always turning, I’m burning, I’m burning!

I’m the hands always racing,

Always pointing, always facing

I’m the day’s hours gone by,

To come again, and why?

And my tears are now,

And forever, and how?

I’m racing around, to follow

Only to follow these numbers

And the last chime sounds hollow…

Twelve

My song

Won’t be here for long,

But it returns, always

dong,

dong, dong,

dong, dong, dong,

dong, dong, dong,

dong, dong,

dong

The End
