Carry On

©1994 Nick Robinson (FTH Ch 2, pg 13)

They say when the heart stops beating

The body dies, and you cease to exist

But does it always end that way

Or can you carry on if you resist

‘Cause when the nights are empty and the days are long

It’s hard to fight, just to be strong

I’d ask myself, why should I try

Nothing that matters will change and my heart still died

And if I carry on with my life, in spite of the emptiness that I feel

Will my life turn out for the better, or will I just pretend that it’s real

See, my heart, it didn’t just stop beating that day

It shattered from the blow

And I can’t find all the pieces now

So how can I think I’ll ever be whole

All I wanted was a good life for us

All I wanted was to succeed

But she got up and walked on out

And now my world’s caving in on me

‘Cause when the nights are empty and the days are long

It’s hard to fight, just to be strong

I’d ask myself, why should I try

Nothing that matters will change and my heart still died

And if I carry on with my life, in spite of the emptiness that I feel

Will my life turn out for the better, or will I just pretend that it’s real

Now maybe I needed this slap in the face

Maybe even at such a cost

To realize just what went wrong

And exactly what can be lost

But for now I’ll just have to carry on

And for now I’ll just have to be strong

‘cause, for all the music we’d made

We’ve played our final song

The End
