Fellow Inmates

What makes it bearable

to sit on the bench

in the cage

Are my fellow inmates

Who feel,

must feel,

the feelings I feel.

They hurt me,

ignore me

hate me-

And other times

They caress me

acknowledge me

love me.

They might not even exist.

I might not even exist.

But we're here together

and one less of us

any of us

a fellow inmate

and friend

and enemy

Weakens the company

in the cage.

The End
