Birds

Recommend

Plump, cheery,

Joy follows every cheep

Of your delicate throat.

Zebra finch

For you I cry out

Pleading, imploring

To have you grasp

A finger, as my heart

Already your thrall.

Cheeks like glowing embers

Eyes deep oceans

Of pure love

For me, I hope

Oh zebra finch!

A covering of ashes

A coat of forgotten dust

Would be mine, too

If your sweet voice

Evaded my ears

And fell upon another's.

Zebra finch, I love you

And would be parted from you

By nothing

But death.
