As I Wait For My Heart To Break

So what now for my fragile heart?
I gave it up for you and you cast it aside
as though it never meant anything
My promises were true
but you preferred the lies
that he knew you would believe

I only ever had eyes for you
but you never knew, you never knew
As I wait for my heart to break
it’s more than I can take

Did I ever cross your mind?
My memories are golden
from the Summer eve’s we spent together
But the poison he offered you
seem to mean so much more
than I could ever give

I wish you were beside me this twilight
but alone I face the agony of this blight
As I wait for my heart to break
it’s more than I could ever take

The bruised skyline from a whisky soaked night
seems to add to the pernicious slight
None of this can be right, but it’s how it is
the realization will make me wish I could die

The End
