Across the sky, beyond the sea
In foreign landscape's mountain heart
With chains unseen, which none set free
Awaits my love, alone, apart.

She alone can break the spell
Enchantment cast by hapless grief
My essence now a tearful well
That drowns my spirit, with no relief.

But hope's feint light deceives the weary
Small but strong it must remain
For not by hope, but by love's memory
Shall I endure, and share her pain.
