An Ode on the Occasion of an Old Man's Birthday

Recommend

Ah, the candles blaze once more,

another mile of life gone by,

and though I've not been here before

it all seems so familiar, now.

Ah, there was a time when the candles danced

to the music of calliopes and clowns,

and life was made of red balloons and gumdrop cake,

and the dreams I had, they were everything.

Ah, there was a time when the candles danced

to the music of roaring rock and roll ,

and life was made of white champagne and bourbon cake,

and the goals I had, they were everything.

Ah, there was a time when the candles danced

to the music of strings and violins,

and life was made of moonlight strolls and bridal cake,

and the plans we had, they were everything.

Ah, there was a time when the candles danced

to the music of years gone by,

and life as made of quiet nights and homemade cake,

and the chores we had, they were everything.

Ah, there now is a time when these candles dance,

to the music of songs deep within.

and life is made of a gentle sigh and a tender touch,

and our loves we have,  they are everything.
