After All These Years

©1996 Nick Robinson (FTH Ch 6, pg 73)

You and I, we aren't talkin' again today

We're outta breath n words to say

And I don't have what it takes anymore

To force open the floodgates, and flood the floor

I'm just so damn tired of being your revolving door

Now we used to be in love, a long long time ago

But after all these years, the love's slowly disappeared

Oh where did the love go, oh where did it all go

After all these years, we have no more love left to show

And now we're livin in a house of pain

And I'll be damned, when I finally get outta here

If I ever come back to this place again

I know I tried once or twice before

But I couldn't find the strength to walk out the door

But not anymore…

'Cause we walk around this house, oblivious to each other

And when we go to sleep at night

We lie on separate sides of the bed

Back to back, curled up tight

And dream of some other lover

It's a sorry state that we're livin in

The tension's so thick

And the chances of cutting through all this mess

Just seems so thin

But this is what it's finally come to

After all these years

Through all the laughter, and all the tears

There's nothing left for me and you

I'm sorry it's all come down to this

But when we finally make the brake

I doubt there will be much left for us to miss

I guess somehow, we lost all control

I guess somehow, after all these years

We did nothing more than dig our own hole

'Cause we used to be in love a long long time ago

But after all these years, the love's slowly disappeared

Oh where did the love go, oh where did it all go

After all these years, we have no more love left to show

The End
