Final Moments

Lying helpless, motion lost,
Can't speak for trying.
Reaching out, trying to call -
Too weak, nothing left
Of any former strength.

Strangled word from dry mouth
In sunken face, torn
By pain and disease,
Age catching up, holding on:
Time falls like sand.

Final tears that hold you here
Binding you to life and then
A breath that fades,
A gate is broken, sobs escape:
This time, the end.

The End
