A Deer Caught Sight of Me This Morning

the capture of a moment of innocence

A deer caught sight of me this morning,

as she drank from the misty waters her first sip of day.

I thought she might flash away in fear,

I thought she might flee my hunter's eye,

instead she paused to feel my soul and chose herself to stay.

A deer caught sight of me this morning,

as I sought to hide myself from her gentle, peaceful gaze.

What does she think of me, this intruder in her realm?

Can she sense my hushed, enchanted awe of her,

can she sense my reverence for the wild innocence of her ways?

A deer caught sight of me this morning,

in a fleeting moment that became a still and quiet hour.

There in the rising mist and the warming dawn,

two souls allowed each other be,

I left her to her peace as she left me to my power.
