The Idea of Hope

Several years after she told the hills that she no longer wanted them
she left
and ran
and cried

Behind her was a sea of grass and water and the smiles of people she left behind
but she ran
and she cried
and she was gone

After a while she became tired and looked over her shoulder
and there she was
back again
whence she came

Their smiles had not changed and their grass had not grown
and their water
was still as clear
as it was before

They had known all along that she would not leave het hopes behind
because all she knew
and all she thought
was back home

The End
