Silently, I step, my paws catching the dew

And soon the life I watch with care will flutter then be through.

I pounce! I win - the fight for life; I walk back to the house

And wonder whether later on I'll meet a pleasant mouse.

Through the door I thrust myself, my mouth stretched in a grin.

In the porch, I nearly skid but then I'm safely in.

My human stands in front of me, her paws holding her sides;

She moans - but why aren't I allowed to fill up my insides?
