Yeah I got my response right. *grin*
(I saw Elzu's e-mail before the trhead and I said:
"I think that by continuing the scene you are not violating the challege, as I see it. It's more of a, you can't go back to the cataclysim again and reuse it, the way you could have done between chalenges 2 and 3.")

Sorry but I'm going to be a few hours late - it's getting closer to one in the morning here, I'm soo tired and can't write so I'll have to post when I wake up in the morning and my brain is functioning properly.

Sorry guys

I have no clue how close to the mark I even am with this one. It's 1am, I just got back from a family gathering, I'm absolutely shattered, and I'm keeping my cousin awake because she can't go to bed whilst I'm on the computer.

So it'll just have to do.

Okay. I've realized that writing according to set guidelines instead of messing with your own ideas IS a challenge. So here is challenge 4 : )

and then there were Nine Seven

well everyone, it looks like we'll be going into the fifth and final challenge with only less than half of the original contestants remaining! chazpez has made a decision to drop out of the SPC. i've contacted the competitors involved in her reviews, and everyone will still be receiving both two panel and two peer reviews for challenge four.

don't sweat it.

(;

update
verse47 and mike_itong have also opted to drop out of the competition, leaving us with only nine competitors entering the fifth and final challenge next week. yikes!

Just a warning Jack:

If I don't pass my permit test tomorrow, my mom is gonna make me drop out.. I'm studying my ass off as we speak, but it's reallyyyy hard so I can't make any guarantees :/ I failed it today, and that's why she's freaking out over it. School starts on Friday so if I don't pass it tomorrow, she'll have to take off work to take me to take it again.. I'll let you know how everything turns out tomorrow

sorryyy

Challenge Five

For this fifth and final challenge, write about a current event in your world. Remember everything you have 'built' so far: mood, climate, geography, history, culture, society, calendars. This event can be a celebration, a ceremony, a battle, or any other significant moment relevant to the plot, characters, and setting. Make it something "newsworthy." However, this event cannot be the cataclysm from challenge two, the history from challenge three, or the scene from challenge four. That said, this event can be related to them, such as an observed anniversary of the cataclysm.

Please take note that I specified a current event. This means that the event should take place in the present-day: not a historical event, not an event in the future. If your entry has spanned multiple eras, choose the one you have developed the most over the course of the competition.

Remember that this is the fifth and final challenge! Though this is the capstone of your entire competition entry, it does not need to include any plot resolution nor tie up every loose end from the previous challenges. As I have stressed before, this is simply a prose competition, not a story-writing competition. You are more than welcome to write the complete story after the competition finishes. Maybe for NaNoWriMo, even. /hinthint.

If you are following along in the 30 Days of World Building, exercises on days four, seven, eight, twenty-three, twenty-five, and twenty-seven will be of particular note.

Please have your completed challenge posted before midnight on Saturday the 14th (11:59:59PST). This leaves you with six and a half days to write your entry. Aim for a length of at lest 750 words, but take care not to lose the interest of your reader.

I am finally done with the fifth challenge. @Jack, I am so furious and exhausted right now that I can't decide which emotion is stronger! Took me nearly four hours to think and type out the whole thing!! You better check it out. Here's the link:

About this group

'cause we all know it's more exciting in Imaginationland.

Worldbuilding is a process, a process that never really ends. It begins with the conception of the setting, progresses as details and histories are filled in, and is then finally refined and reshaped as the characters explore it.

Some writers construct huge worlds with deep histories, cultures, languages, geographies, and societies. Others opt for a simpler approach, and construct only what they need to tell a story convincingly.

Whatever approach you take, this group hopes to provide some tips and tools for the worldbuilding process and, should you need it, people to help you along the way. We're all crafting stories here, why not make them a little more convincing?
