Currently, I am reading many of Edgar Allen Poe's pieces in a great giant book of "selected works". There are many short stories and poems inside. I had only read a little of him here and there before, but now I am eager to read most if not all of this book! His stories, I have found, to be some of my favorites! I have always been a sucker for traditional works in such a period, but they are incredibly written with dashes of humor and horror. His works tend to be on the dark side of things, but his descriptions are amazing and on occasions there will be a great funny twist.
I am really enjoying this book of his pieces, and I have found great inspiration for my own writings, in a way.

I saw one of my favourite author's names.
I have a book of his works!
I love him! Poe is incredibly inspirational.
There are a few racist parts, but it was written a long time ago, so you can't blame him.
Have you read "The Telltale Heart" yet?
That's one of my favourites :D

I'm not a big Poe fan. The Telltale Heart? The Raven? Not my thing. But I thought you'd like to know that I went on a field trip to his gravesite in the 3rd grade. Yeah, I live in Baltimore. Baltimorons (yes that's the propper term, funny, huh?) tend to be crazy about him. Our football team is named after one of his poems!

@Juliia-How interesting! :)

@Misfit-I just read the Telltale Heart-perhaps one of the best of his works! Have you read "The Spectacles"? It had a funny twist to it.

I love allot of Poe's poetry (I hope the humor of the fact that Poe writes poetry has not escaped anyone), as well as the few short stories of his I've read. (The Raven, The Telltale Heart). But now I think I'll take more interest in his stories.

You already know that I love Poe, Zilla. =P I have that big reddish book that's so similar to yours. I've been reading Poe since I was... 11? I think it was 11. :D

@KelseyWilliams-Ha, ha! =D Long time, no see, eh? ;)

@Chaosbeing-I really do like his poems as well, but I agree that I take more interest in his stories.

I love E.A.P`s (Edgar Allen Poe) works my favorite poem I`ve ever read (by anyone) has to be Annabel lee. I have a book that is 548 pages of poetry by all these different poets (it`s from the turn of the century and my great great grandmother bought it) it`s been in my family since... I love looking up poetry and Edger Allen Poe (or E.A.P) is one of my all time favorite poets.
I love the telltale heart but haven't read the others you`ve said maybe I`ll look them up

To be honest, I'm not really a fan of Poe's short stories, I find them far to long and rambley for my tastes. I agree, there are some great ones out there (The Pit and the Pendulum, The Telltale Heart), and even in the short stories I didn't like so much I found interesting ideas (The Cask of Amontillado, Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether).
What I really like about Poe is the musicality of his poetry. It often has a nursery-rhyme like flow that contrasts with the theme in such a great way.
Annabel Lee is probably my favourite of his poems though. Looks like you and I have something in common ScribeOfBlood!
