I wonder if folks who have read vampire sagas like Anne Rice's "Vampire Chronicles" or Laurell K. Hamilton's "Anita Blake" series have a harder time swallowing the Twilight saga.

I find myself in this sort of boat. I started reading the Vampire Chronicles when I was in high school and Anita Blake in college. I tried picking up Twilight and reading it, but I lost interest midway through the book.

I'm not sure if I'll ever get over the fact that they "sparkle". However, I will say that part of the reason that this "sparkling" is such a turn-off for me is that the effect was very mild. :) I mean, let's face it - it could have been portrayed as a million faucets of cut crystal reflecting from their skin but they just sorta... shimmered.

I agree with you completely there. I'm of the unshakable opinion that vampires should never "sparkle" in the sunlight. When vampires enter sunlight, they should go "fwhoosh!" in literal blaze of glory.
oh i toatally agree erghh when i first saw the adverts it looked amazing.but now i don't think so i think there are too many sagas and also i think the story line isn't that intresting.the books i suppose are okay but the films ahhhhhhh now they are even worse than the books
The books were good but I almost killed myself over the last one. Half human vampire baby? Really? It was like someone else wrote that book.

I'm kinda tired of people obsessing over it and I know because I use to be one of those crazy fangirls where I couldn't get enough of it.

I have to say the best vampire book I ever read was the Anita Blake series. I really like those but I stopped reading them after book 4.... but they are good.
I read Twilight before the 'hype.' Afterwards I asked whether anyone else had but no one had heard of it! I thought Twilight was ok, verging on quite good. My favourite book was Eclipse, but Breaking Dawn was bad. I mean, c'mon! Reneesme just happens to grow up really fast, just so Jacob gets his happy ending. Bit convenient if you ask me. And there was never the epic fight that was promised :( I think if you watch the movies, they have to be viewed differently from the books. For me, the saga was ok. The movies were also ok, but then the casting put me off (I do not like Kristen Stewart as an actress!) I think Twilight generally is over exaggerated (helped by Hollywood) and to echo what many have said, it's not worth the fuss.
Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga, no matter how much praise it got, is not nearly as good as the Host in my opinion. I find it more original and the events more captivating.
Though I still don't think the Twilight Saga deserves so much hate. It's kind of like the Justin Beiber of books, lol. Somewhat cheesy, a tad over-rated and it has girls drool over it - or should I say the characters?
And if I had to pick a team I'd pick Team Jasper. ;D
I enjoyed reading the series, but I do understand why people have issues with it sometimes. It does have a tendency to get repetitive, and I think that's it's biggest problem. I do, however, really like the series.
I read the books, but only because i wanted to know what the heck all the "Team Jacob, Team Edward" crap was about. vampires... sparkle? I dont think so.
They don't. But fairies do.
Utter tripe! I honestly don't even think they deserve to be a holiday read...so badly written. "Bella opened the window and inhaled" You can literally see where the silly woman has opened a thesaurus! Horrible, horrible, horrible.
I think the storyline itself could be pretty decent, if there wasn't so much hype about the movies. Nowadays, it's not the storyline hundreds of teen girls go crazy for, it's the men that play the characters. It's a shame really :/
@ELouiseV15 - Totally agree. While I can appreciate a sexy male lead, I'm rather more concerned with the storyline myself. Hence my dislike of Twilight - too much of it was spent describing Edward's every perfect feature, and not enough on the murderous vampires out to eat everyone in sight xP
yeah, I would say the book is much more angled towards the romance, while people like us would much rather read descriptions about the people who get devoured >:-) bit weird, but hey it's true xD
Two years ago, I began reading Twilight(I made the mistake of buying the book instead of checking it out at the library. I will never make that mistake again.) and I would give it maybe a 3 out of 5. I kind of liked it, but all the publisity it was getting made me want to hate it. Towards the end of completing the book, I had NO idea what was going on in the book even though I had just been reading it for a month! I found myself skipping multiple pages at time just to finish the cinder block.
Give me a blood sucking fiend of the night. The undead, stinking of the grave, and inspiring shear terror. My vampires don't sparkle, and they certainly don't fall in love with their food, any more than you love the cow that just provided that delicious bacon cheeseburger you had for lunch.

You want a good yarn about vampires read Stephen King's "Salems Lot".
Want a good flick try "Nosferatu".

The only good vampire has a stake through it's heart.
Couldn't agree more, Shadowspawn. In the words of an awesome song:

The Cullen clan are a peaceful bunch
On human blood they refuse to munch
But a real vampire would have a hunch
- You never fall in love with your High School lunch!
I saw a twilight card yesterday.....I had hoped the craze was mostly over. Apparently not. Anyway, I think that there is a point were people change things to such a point where they fail to meet with expectations...like sparkling vampires. I frankly can't attribute the Twilight craze to anything other than teenage girl hormones.
