Okay, so whenever I get hooked on my writing (specifically novels) I end up making playlists of music that pertains to what's happening in my stories and I add songs to it whenever I find some. I listen to music and then I'm like, this really relates to blah, blah, blah or this definitely describes how so-and-so feels and then I add it. My question is, am I the only one who does this?

Well, I don't exactly make a playlist, but I do listen to songs that remind me of books I'm writng or one that I've read. I use the feelings and emotions the song protrays for some of my characters.

So I suppose, yes, I do what you do, but I do not make a playlist.

I do something like this, too! But not for my entire novel, just certain scenes. For example I was writing a scene where a couple of teenagers go to this club, not knowing that it was really a werewolf club, and I picked the song House of Wolves by My Chemical Romance as the inspiring music for that part :)

Thanks for your input guys, I was curious. I end up listening to the inspiring tunes while I'm typing, which helps me stay focused and capture emotion.

weird, i thought i was the only one who does this.

yes i make a playlist, but not for a chapter but for the entire book, i continuely add whatever feels inspirational and right for the story.

for example i have a few songs from my faverite movies,
like "be prepared" and "in the dark of the night" (in the dark of the night is more of a song that sounds good, not one that relates at all to my writing)

then i have songs like "when your evil" and "a gorey demise"

even if the songs dont relate at all, they are as heck inspirational.

Yeah, that's what I do really. Find songs that inspire the story and keep them together in a playlist. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I do exactly the same thing!
I create different ones for different scenes, i.e a fight scene, or a disaster scene.
I usally end up mixing all kinds of genre's together and it creates the perfect little writing bubble!!
Oh I'm sorry, I'm Lauren by the way.

Haha, cool, that's definitely very close to what I do.
Haha, no problem, Lauren. I'm Allison.

I think this is a really good idea! Too bad my ipod won't let me create any more playlists. I've got to fix that!

I do something similiar. Ever read a book and listen to music at the same time, and think "Wow, this song really fits the scene right now."?

@Doodler123

Thanks. I think it's really helpful because it helps set the mood so when you have playlists made, they help you fight writer's block and problems with getting into the story itself.

Cool. Yeah, although I don't listen to music and read at the same time very often, this has happened to me before. It's weird when that happens.

@ANF I listen to music for everything. Really, really loudly, despite everyone elses wishes. Music makes everything better, and I'm a pretty good at doing some stuff at the same time.

That's cool. Music definitely makes everything better. I listen to music while I write mostly cuz I get too distracted when reading unless I'm listening to classical. But props to you for sure.

@ANF That's interesting. So classical music helps you focus on what your reading. Do you have any theories on why is that?

I'm not really sure other than its just kind of peaceful and relaxing. Its also been said that classical music helps one concentrate too.

My characters for stories all had a specific playlists! Jordan, a very gothic teenager, was mainly Metallica during the last story in my series.
