It arrived this morning and I'm actually in love with it... I have to admit, the fact that I can READ MY OWN BOOKS on there by sending them to it is awesome, and will make editing so much easier, and also the fact that I can check my emails without a computer!!!!!! (I know, you can do this on phones. But not my phone. It would die.)

Do you have a Kindle? Do you love it? Do you still read real books?

Off to go read my own book for a little while longer! :D

Wait? Whats This?

Oh Christmass You can not come soon enough!

*Elo then starts pray that her hubby picks the Kindle to purchase as her e-reader* (yes we tell ech other pretty much exactly what we want. saves the hassle of trying to figure it out... especially when he wants stuff that I have no clue how to pick out *grin*)

OH! @Miriam there was a year 13 girl (~ 17 years old) at the NaNo kick-off I went to who still prefers her books over the Kindle.
@Jackerbie - What? How? Intrigued!

@Elo - The Kindle is awesome. And I still like real books, but this is so much easier on public transport ... only thing is, the parents are saying I can't take it to school with me, which is the one time I actually have a chance to read - when I'm on the bus! So I am not happy about that.

@DEl NOES! that's not very nice of them. *pout*

Speaking of buses I need to arrange how I"m gettin ghome from my Mom's next week... *grin*

I'm thinking he'll probably get me a Kindle, since I mean, where are most of the books in the world located? Amazon DUH... I just wish there was a universal reader so I didn't have to spend my money at one place... *sigh*
I got a Kindle for my birthday this summer and I LOVE IT!! I reject it on principle because it isn't a proper book but it makes so much sense that I can't help loving it. I've managed to get a load of the books for my uni course on it free and the ones I have had to pay for are soo much cheaper than buying a paper copy.

I also love that I can carry it around in my bag without risking ripping my arm off at the shoulder because the book is too heavy!
is it possible to add protag books onto the kindle?
If you save it as a PDF, you can send it to your Kindle as a personal document. However, it's easier to read if you change the orientation to horizontal. I read the whole of Phoenix Triumphant on mine when I first got it :)
I hate to be a party pooper but what is a Kindle?
I actually have a Nook but I have the same love affair going. :) My husband even spends some spare time with it. I don't believe that I have picked up an actual book since I've gotten it. There is, however, something oh so gratifying about holding a book, turning that last page and finally closing it. Couldn't live without my Nook now though.
I've had my Kindle for almost a year. Probably shoulda waited for the new, snazzy colorfied version.

But nonetheless, I'm very happy with the device, yet I'm disappointed in the prices for Amazon books for Kindle. So I practiced swapping a full-price Kindle book, then to a used or library paperback, etc.

But recently my library got on board with the Kindle library check out. Now I have access to a very long list of free books! 'Course, I only get 3 weeks to read them, but it sure saves a lot of coin!

I recommend checking with your local library and see if they are Kindle-friendly.
I read a lot of free books, mainly classics - that's what I generally use the Kindle for. I also have a friend who gifts them to me, which is always nice. I still read slightly more real books than ebooks because I'm a heavy library user, and also I've leant my Kindle to my mum.

(The 'snazzy colorfied version' is not available where I live, alas.)
I agree on the classics. I have a Kindle-full of Mark Twain, Dostoyevsky, Grimms Fairy Tales, and Charles Dickens - more than I can read in a few years I'm sure.
Ha, mine is just Arthur Conan Doyle, Arthur Conan Doyle, Arthur Conan Doyle, Victor Hugo, Arthur Conan Doyle .... yeah, I have a lot of Sherlock Holmes on there.
I've never really liked the idea of a Kindle. I love the scent of a new book and the sound of turning pages and the feel of a glossy book cover. I adore real books!:)
I hated the idea until I got one, and then I realised it doesn't really matter. Plus, some of the actual real books I read have such small fonts it gives me a headache, and if you reread them a lot you can't turn the pages because they fall out. I'll never ONLY read on my Kindle (not being allowed to take it to school because it's not insured means I need real books for bus journeys) but it's great for indie books and classics as they're not available in paper or are free on Kindle.
I'm gonna agree with angel-of-darkness about being in love with real books. I can spend hours in a bookstore and not give one furry crack of a rat's behind about the lost time there. If given the opportunity, I'd bring a cot or even a sleeping bag to the world famous Powell's City of Books here in Portland and camp out a few days.

However, being "on the go" a lot with 3 different jobs, public transportation, and nothing but a modest backpack to carry everything I need, the Kindle is my hero. And it is also my insurance against back/shoulder strain from heavy hardcovers and pulpy paperbacks.
My thoughts exactly. I read too fast to take enough books for one journey with me, as they'd be too heavy. Also, for things like Les Miserables or whatever, they're ENORMOUS! Kindle's a great space saver. I bought the 4th book in the Inheritance cycle as a Kindle edition because I didn't want to reorganise my bookshelves again to fit it in *grins*

In London we've got Foyles, which is actually huge. I'm incapable of going there without buying books, and one time I bought eight....
Great post about Kindles v Real Books - http://opinionehted.com/2012/02/17/kindling-the-fire/#comment-656
Good article. And I was thinking in regard to book snobs, just 10 years ago all the "purist" film photographers said they would never go digital. But look where they all are now. They're probably even using their iPhone for a quick snapshot every once in a while.
