That could work. Well, I got my inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft and Final Fantasy 1. And in FF1 each monster is aligned with an element. The creature in the ocean was a kraken that used water magic. The winged serpent was a dragon that used wind magic. The decaying body was an undead sorcerer he used earth magic. And the fiery machination was actually a naga who used fire magic. So that could totally work. And the pupeteer could be draining all the energy for himself.

could these monsters have a human appearance then a beast appearance as well so they could order minions and manipulate humans.

Ooo, I like it. But I don't think their human forms should be normal. Like the water beast in human form looks extreamly bloated, the earth one is very dirty and has dirt under his fingernails, the wind one looks thin and gaunt, the fire one is always sweating.

sure I mean it adds character to them. Also that being said they should be heavily intelligent .

also had another idea rush over

What if Gavin's mentor is the right hand man of the puppeteer, or the puppeteer, or more strangely a part of the puppeeteer like a clone.

We could also rework Alex's backstory a bit if we want to make him turn evil late in the story.

I thought you didn't want him to go berserk this time?

Chimera, I like the idea of Gavin's mentor being the pupeteer, or at least a pawn. Perhaps Gavin's mentor (who I'm now going to call Ug for the purposes of simplicity) Perhaps Ug was kidnapped by the Puppeteer around the time of the Magister Lords. Ug would've then been brainwashed and had his personality changed by the all-powerful magic of the Puppeteer. So, Ug would become the figurehead of the Puppeteer, because it would be in the best interests of the Puppeteer to stay out of the spotlight.

ok, so far we have this: we are working around 2 years after TML came to a close. magic is sort of accepted in the kingdom, and mages can now work out in the open (although there is still an underground group). The story will probably take place in the capitol. Jon is the main ruler, Soren his right hand man, with others who are on his side as a sort of Council of Lords (memers of council are TBD).

Also, why not use both of those awesome ideas? Some people don't want Jon, or the others, reforming the country. But when this monster/scourge/pupeteer comes, they will have to rely on our little gang here to get rid of it/them. Consequently, magic becomes a good thing again and the Magisters the guides and teachers they once were. Seraphim, I love your little exerpt. We may have to use it in the actual story! :) I wonder if the monsters can change form? that would be cool, too. Maybe Alex could have fake memories and be a monster bound in human form that can only be tamed by Gwen....

Here is our set of characters:

xKatanaXIV, Derrick Keane: Manipulation magic. Married. may have one child on the way. Fully recovered from the fight with the old magister lords. works as an advocate for the new Lords even though he is one. occasionally assists at the magic academy. knows Nox from the academy.

iamkathybrown13, Roland Grey: stealth/cloaking (high) and matter manipulation (low). willing to help friends. Guard and trainer of guards.
Seraphim'sZepher, Thomas Aquos: complete control of water. lives on an island. married, two kids. went through a temporal rift to fight monsters and found himself where the rest of our characters reside.

ork, Nox: Energy/Source magic. cripple, walks with a limp. knows nothing of his past. was, from what we have determined, one of Arkham's pet projects, like Gwendolyn was. knew Derrick when he was at the magic academy.

Xeranad, Gwendolyn Winterhaven: command magic. went back to being the forest witch. [is Snickers still around?? Probs, but it doesn't hurt to ask...]
& Alexander Kahner: son of a lord. followed Gwen into the woods and became known as the Black Knight. probably not going to turn into a monster. Arkham did some work on him, replacing his eye with a dead sorcer's eye, which gave Alex immense power. the catch being he gets weak if he uses it for too long.

chimerkiller2, Gavin Theat: magical abilities pretty much unknown. looking for his mentor, Ug, who has be come the figure head of the pupeteer [i think?].

lovemay, Kathering: TBD. I need a character bio and status, please!

let me know if I should revise or change anything there.

@xKatanaXIV He is a guard and a trainer. Single. I think evil element draining monsters are a good idea, It also gives our characters a time limit, and races against the clock are always fun. Also, I believe there should be some discontent among the people, maybe some angry enough to try and hinder us.

okay we need a name for ug and since he has been dubbed Ug. Ug should be part of his name.

Also working off of seraphim here I don;t entirely like the idea of brainwashed but perhaps his motivations were to work for this man and was gathering these artifacts for this man, and was contacted to join him as his figurehead he gladly accepted and left Gavin behind because a small part of him didn't want to drag him into this dark world.

Or maybe a little more traditionally Ug had his memories wiped over so he could fit into society for a bit and do his mission to pick up artifacts and beleive he was just a simple man trying to make a living. However when the magister lords fell the puppeteer felt that it was his time to strike and broke the spell on him so Ug remembered who really was and returned to the puppetteer as his faithful servant.

Or maybe he is so convinced of the puppeteer's promises to him, or so convinced that he can double cross him, that he folllows all his plans.

Ug would have to be an utter fool to do so cuz this puppeteer guy is gonna or already is obsurdly powerful from what I can tell.

Love the way this building up, just an idea here.

What if the real puppeteer it too strong that he splits himself into entities each that turns into one of those monsters and another part of him totally controls Ug. Or rather Ug is the real host of the puppeteer.

Lets say Ug is also to strong and the only time the puppeteer can totally control him is when he tries to use magic. Everytime he uses it the puppeteer emerges taking control until his body becomes weak, when he can't use magic anymore thats when the puppeteer ceases his control. Maybe Ug emotions are now unpreditable always trigger a magical effect or the puppeteer always leaves him with a craving to use more magic.

Anyway something like that.

I perfer the idea of him willingly joining the Puppeteer with some vague hope of being able to turn against the Puppeteer, even if that hope is futile.

that could possibly make sense depending on Ug's personality traits. all though were just creating a martyr

Sounds good to me. Also, some visual aid.

Major difference. And yes, I do see him having a moment of momentary insanity at least once in the story. The question is I doubt even the puppeteer can control the monster that lies within. I doubt even COMMAND MAGIC could.

Also, I had an idea: what if the puppeteer is a former master of Command magic? One of the ones from the past mentioned by Soren (I think it was him).

About this group

For those interested in outlining and discussing specific ongoing storylines.

Sometimes simply using the comments area to refine a story's plot, sending private messages to co-authors to discuss characters, or updating the author guidance with setting information isn't quite enough.

If you have an elaborate, complex tale — be it solo or collaborative — come by the Planning & Brainstorming group to storyboard, outline, annotate, draft, and discuss your work's plot, characters, setting, history, intrigue, or anything that comes to mind.

Please try and keep all discussion topics you create centered around a single work!

Note: The intention is to move all story-related discussions in this group into "Story Wikis" (a new feature, currently in planning) down the road, so please use this group instead of posting new works to discuss backstory/characters/story meta-information.
