For those interested in outlining and discussing specific ongoing storylines.
Sometimes simply using the comments area to refine a story's plot, sending private messages to co-authors to discuss characters, or updating the author guidance with setting information isn't quite enough.
If you have an elaborate, complex tale — be it solo or collaborative — come by the Planning & Brainstorming group to storyboard, outline, annotate, draft, and discuss your work's plot, characters, setting, history, intrigue, or anything that comes to mind.
Please try and keep all discussion topics you create centered around a single work!
Note: The intention is to move all story-related discussions in this group into "Story Wikis" (a new feature, currently in planning) down the road, so please use this group instead of posting new works to discuss backstory/characters/story meta-information.
Tikita bird which has the smallest living heart and is very hard to see, but has a beautiful eerie song which has been known to make the hardest of hearts weep with its melancholy tone.
Falath'Nakan: 'fa-lath-na-kaan'. An ancient race of treetop dwellers with cat-like eyes and coloured markings on their skin like tattoos which they are born with. Colours: Red- warrior, Purple- magic user, Green- cleric/sage, Blue- Only seen once before, and the dweller had the abilities of all three of the colours. However, all the power he possessed destroyed him in the end, as he turned on his people. Rare colour.
The Falath'Nakan are well known for their agility, their speed and their intelligence. However, they do not tend to venture from their forest habitat, and have rarely been seen since the Great War of Fantandein 'fan-tan-dayn', where all races clashed in a battle over the Seer Stone of the Sanfadier 'san-fad-ear'( all- seeing), which allows the bearer to see the future.
Vaan: 'v-ah-n'. An ugly race of small creatures with human shaped bodies and distorted faces. Known for their greed, the creatures will do almost anything for a large bag of gold, or a precious ornament. They dwell in marshes, and have developed an underwater system so that they can hide all their treasures under the marsh where no one will find them.
Siviere: 'si-veer'. The race of water folk who have developed to walk on land. They live in any large expanse of water and have often been confused with sirens by humans, as their song is enchanting. They use their song to keep the water clear, and have no evil inclinations. They are the most beautiful of all the races, with pale skin that shines as though it is constantly wet although it is dry, and beautiful blue eyes which change just as the colours of the ocean change, depending on their mood. In the water their bodies become less visible and more like the water, but as soon as their skin hits air they become human shaped.
Vinger: 'vin-ger'. Sharp toothed, reptile like creatures with horned heads and red eyes. Generally a dull bronze colour, they feed on the flesh of most creatures, and are renowned killers. Believed to be the 'pets' of the Lothrids. This creature hates daylight.
Lothrid: A mud coloured creature, the same height as the Vaan. They are distant cousins, but the Lothrid are much uglier than the Vaan, since their eyes are the colour of rubies and their chubby little bodies ooze a sticky green liquid which is poisonous to the touch and appears from their body when they are in deep distress or are angry. They have very few teeth but have filed them in to stubby points, and they eat their own slime. They, like the Vaan, collect treasures, but they hide them in caves rumoured to be guarded by Vingers. The Lothrid hates daylight, just like its pet.
Human.
Sorcerer: Human with some magical power. Usually enhanced by a source of power such as a staff or amulet. Depending on the strength of the bloodline from which the magic comes, and the evil/ good in their heart, the sorcerer can be extremely powerful.
The sky over Fantandein is a light purple colour, and it has two moons, one white and one black. During the night, when the sky is almost black, the black moon covers the white one for an hour, allowing the entire planet to fall in to darkness. The shores are guarded by high precipices with deep and mysterious caves, some which go into underwater caverns filled with colours from the crystals embedded in the walls. This is where the Siviere children of the sea are brought up, their playground. Above these caves and on top of these cliffs is where the Castle Hava is built (hava meaning hope) and it stares out at the sea and across the land. This is the castle of the human King Stephan, his wife Sophia and their two children Aria and Ramon who are both of age. Under their watch lies the city of Trephin, which is famous for its sea faring and its port (not the drink). Legend believes that these people have a little of the Siviere in them- that at the beginning of time a man fell in love with a siviere and captured her. They had two children, who were the beginning of the people of Trephin. The legend states that although the siviere loved her man, the call of the sea was too much for her and she escaped to the sea. Her husband was torn without her and threw himself in to the sea to be reunited with her, leaving his two children and their families.
Beyond Trephin there is the Valley of the Muta (Valley of the Blessed) where most of the human villages and towns are found. Protected by the unclimbed valley walls, these human settlements farm the land and work in happiness, if not luxury. Above the Valley, on the side furthest from the castle is the Lost Marshes. Here dwell the Vaan, and no one dares to enter their domain, since there have been tales that anyone who enters is never seen again. These rumours were probably started by the Vaan themselves, to keep their treasures safe from prying eyes. On the other side of the valley, nearest the castle, are the Mountains of Durhelm (Mountains of Catastrophe), a place shrouded in legends of Vingers and Lothrids. Beyond them is the Desert of Despair where no living creature resides. There is no source of water here, or food, and it is believed to stretch on for days with no end.
At the end of the Valley of the Muta are the Plains of Kaya (Plains of Joy) which are surrounded by two forests. The Plains of Kaya are wide open grassy spaces where humans, animals and other forms of life live. From a birds eye these plains are divided by streams, rivers and lakes the stretch from the sea and through the Valley of Muta. Between the Plains and the Mountains is the Forest of Garnee (Forest of Peace) which houses humans, animals and other life forms, like the Plains. It was on the edge of this forest that the treaty after Great War of Fantandein was signed. On the other side is the Forest of Illumini (Forest of Light) which is the home of the Falath'Nakan, and is rarely entered by anyone. This forest has some of the lands most beautiful and useful plants and animals within its cover, but because it is inhabited by the Falath'Nakan not many people dare enter, as this race is protective of nature.
Beyond all this is the dark Wastes of Kavar, in the centre of which the Castle of Kashranda; a dark spiralled castle which is home to King Stephan's evil sorcerer brother Sethos and his daughter Desdemonda. Their land is full of outcasts and evil hearted creatures. There is nothing of beauty in that land, and it is from here that Sethos plots to over throw his brother. He was banished to this kingdom when he tried to destroy any chance of a treaty after the Great War. Desdemonda's mother was a witch who Sethos killed when she told Stephan of his plan to keep the races at war over the Stone of Sanfadier. He then took his child and left, his anger and power growing every year he is banished.
Where he lives? Let's just have him say "A place YOU cannot pronounce right."
His allegiances lie with himself and whoever amuses him, he doesn't like to get caught up in things that don't involve him, and he gets very aggravated in a I-hate-this-but-I'm-not-gonna-do-anything-about-it kinda way when he does get involved.
He doesn't like fighting, more rather he enjoys watching others fight and commenting how much better he could do whatever somebody else does. Which can be true for an aspect, fights can be lost because of his refusal to join in, and impossible battles can become winnable when he lends a helping hand.
Jack is very much a I'm here because I want to be, now I'm not gonna do anything kind of character. Best used in a supportive role with key plot elements made small when he involves himself. Really just sort of a comic relief element, able to keep things from getting far too serious due to his actions and behaviour in the face of serious danger.
If you don't like that just say so and I'll go back to the planning board. =D
Like have him nowhere around until a moment of dire need, and he's just there. He rubs off the danger in a bad way and he gets attacked, so of course, he inadvertantly saves the main character and co. They ask him to join them in their quest and he agrees, so long as nobody bossed him about, along the journey they really get to know him and, despite him rubbing them off the wrong way, they grow on each other until they become inseperable.
Of course if you don't want to do that, than he can live in a shack in the Plains of Kaya with a sign that says 'No Solicitors' outside.
Hope that helps. =)
Let the supporting author be the supporting character.
I will be going to sleep now, I shall return in a few hours and hopefully we'll have something going!
I'm going to start with a bit of history, and an overall of what is happening e.g the Prince has to prove he is mature and of age by taking on a quest, and he chooses to find the Stone of Sanfadier. [This means someone can play the Prince if they want, in fact, it would be best]. I would say we need someone who is a childhood friend to join him and refuse to leave, saying they want an adventure or whatever. On the way, they'll meet other people that will join them as little quests distract them from their main goal- rescuing someone or something attacking them- that sort of thing. Eventually, they will discover the Stone, and in the knick of time, because on the way back, the Prince (or whoever is holding the stone) begins to dream of a great attack from Sethos and his daughterm which is already in large force and preparing to march on the kingdom. They must race back, but luckily because of the new friends the Prince has made from other races, they will have support. How is that? Now we just need a Prince and at least one person from the good races. I think you can guess who they are :D
let me know and then i shall post my collab accordingly :) x
Gender: Male
Race: Vaan
Weapon: Double Bladed Spear (http://www.edgeimport.com/images/7348173649659.jpg), Bow
Description: Around 4 foot 10 inches tall, his hair is medium length, black and is all over the place. His eyes are completely black, and his teeth are sharp and yellow. Ruthless in battle, and just plain evil at any other given time. He is respected by his people, regardless of how he doesnt respect them. He wouldn't help anyone who isn't of his kind, unless paid to do so. He doesn't find his race superior, however he doesn't find any of the others any better than his. He can get violent, but most of the time he avoids unnecessary fights. His size and speed make him a hard target to hit in battle, and his ugly appearance can scare even the bravest of warriors. Just as proficient with his bow than he is with his spear. His alliances lie on the side with the most money. Used to be a general in the Vaan army before getting bored and going freelance because the ending of the Great War of Fantandein left him bored, and he wanted to kill. He is from the Lost Marshes.
Any problems? :)
Jo- yeah we can definitely be from a race and I'm a sievere too!!!! YAY!!! :D
Race: Sievere
Description: She has waist length black hair that falls in waves, and blue eyes which change shade depending on her mood. Her ears are slightly pointed at the tips, and she has pale skin which is unblemished. She is 5"8, seemingly delicate and speaks softly as though her voice were the breaking of waves on pebbles. Her lips are light with a slight coral tinge and she loves the water, although she has always had a desire for the land. She is calm and thoughtful, but when presented with an enemy her eyes turn stormy and she attacks with all the strength she has and without mercy. As a little girl she wandered out of the nursery caves and met the Prince, who was playing on the beach. From then on they met to play, then to talk as often as possible.
Weapon: A small ¾ blade with intricate markings from the handle. Silver and studded with blue gems in the hilt.
Yara comes from the ocean next to Castle Hava.
