For those interested in outlining and discussing specific ongoing storylines.
Sometimes simply using the comments area to refine a story's plot, sending private messages to co-authors to discuss characters, or updating the author guidance with setting information isn't quite enough.
If you have an elaborate, complex tale — be it solo or collaborative — come by the Planning & Brainstorming group to storyboard, outline, annotate, draft, and discuss your work's plot, characters, setting, history, intrigue, or anything that comes to mind.
Please try and keep all discussion topics you create centered around a single work!
Note: The intention is to move all story-related discussions in this group into "Story Wikis" (a new feature, currently in planning) down the road, so please use this group instead of posting new works to discuss backstory/characters/story meta-information.

Just read the first chapter: amazing. I'm like an excited child on Christmas Eve with this story...
Before I jump in though, I was wondering if you could give us a quick bio for each faction? Just because you obviously know more about them than we do and I want to make an informed choice about which one I 'join' :P
:P
Awwsome! XD
Quick bio coming right up.
The Netherworld: The union of all sorts of supernaturals in the parallel realm. Some of them are tasked with keeping the boundaries between the Netherworld and this world safe and strong.
Vanilla World: Earth normal. The people are either completely unaware of the existence of the Netherworld, or are government groups experimenting on the Netherworld and its denizens or independent groups with dealings with supernaturals.
Rebel Alliances: Several factions, both inside the Netherworld and in our world who wish to reveal the existence of the Netherworld to everyone, for varied motivations. Some want to destroy this world. Others want the Netherworld to be accepted.
As of now, the branches don't indicate factions so you don't have to choose yet. They only indicate where the action is taking place. After a few branches, we can sorta choose 'to 'join'.
Did you want bios for our characters then?
Also, is this like a roleplay or is it going to be a third person story with multiple main characters? They're kind of the same thing, but I feel like roleplays limit the info given by the writer to a more character basis. Whadaya think?
Type - Immortal werewolf
Ability (-ies) - can transform at will, can control his wolf form, and is immortal.
Weakness (-es) - automatically transforms at full moon, cannot control himself when this happens, and is not invincible.
Well, I suppose it depends on what you guys prefer. Personally I feel we could each pick a few characters and have roleplay, but occasionally we wil have to dabble in world-nuilding and character interaction. Sound good?
@Ty694:
Well, I'm not sure. I'd always imagined as just another world, but with beings who are slightly more... powered? The obvious explanation is that the parallel dimension has a harsh environment that caused more mutations and thus more exotic life-forms :P
Nice bio btw, just confirming he's immortal as in he lives forever but he can be killed right... like he's not bullet proof or anything?
I also have a few other quick comments, but I'll save them for after I explain my character:
Name: Sion
Age: Unknown, but young in appearance
Appearance: Catlike eyes, dirty blonde hair, pale skin, tail, but not a catlike tail, just a kind of devilish tail. Not in a kinky way. Anyway...
Talent: Can jump between worlds (she likes to call them planes) at will, but at the cost of energy and stamina. Her understanding of the planes is that there are three key ones: the Vanilla World, the Midland Plane, and the Netherworld.
Yeah, and onto the queries.
I hope that the development of the worlds and the way they work is okay - if you've ever read The Amulet of Samarkand, that's what I couldn't stop thinking about as I was writing, so I kinda worked it into my character's knowledge, if that's okay?
Secondly, because my character can go between worlds and is a "mutant" herself, I'm not sure whether to jump between the three branches/worlds to tell her story, or whether to stick with the one I'm on now, or whether to start another branch for her all together. Let me know your thoughts :)
Hopefully this is okay - this is quite a complex idea, so I wanted to make sure that the right info was there without infodumping it. It was hard to avoid I think though :P
Cheers!
Just to confirm, is the Midland Plane like a crossing station between the Netherworld and Vanilla World?
I think Sion has a natural understanding of the concept, but different races or breeds might view the whole shebang differently, right?
Is Sion the only of her kind, or are there others like her? Can she teleport?
I think Sion is the perfect character for you to use to switch back and forth between planes... or branches as we might refer to it?
Personally, I love the way you've gone about building the world and describing it without infodumping, I know the temptation to overblast.
To a chapter well written...
Cheers Indeed

PS For now I'm sure the name is fine... I'm still trying to find a way to let the next author name their branch, but I don't think it can be done :(
Lets keep the sequential numbering on for now, I suppose.
Because in my head, I think cats like some other weird species, are originally from the Netherworld and just sort of migrated here :D
What do you think?
Thanks for letting me know that it's okay though!
And in answer to the questions, it's up to everybody else to decide whether she is the only one of her kind - I was thinking of a kind of mutant kind of thing where no two creatures are similar, but if somebody wants to write about another one then I have no objections, obviously :)
She can't quite teleport, but she can manipulate the branches to come together to jump from place to place and between branches, so actually yes, I suppose you could say that she can teleport :P
Well, I think planes would have sounded fine, but sure maybe, branches makes more sense but we'll have to careful to write the story in that manner. But good thinking there...
Thanks for answering those questions.
I presume there might be species with the same powers but maybe Sion is a rare breed?
@Ty694:
Well do the Chimera and the Cerberus grow up into this badass species? Sounds pretty madass! LOL
How about calling it the Panopteryx? :P
Oh Just wanted your opinion on whether I should change the rebel alliance branch to the Midland branch ?
makes more sense eh?
@Ty694 I think there actually is a species in Greek mythology that gives birth to both the Chimera and the Cerberus, but it's probably not as interesting as anything you can come up with ;)
Just tell us what it is...
We could probably work on it, enhance it maybe?
Basically, it's a H-U-G-E monster with the body of a wolf, tail of a scorpion, and a snake's head with horns. What do you think? Too over the top, or just right, or not over the top enough, etc...? Also, the Chimera and Cerberus can do a little coccoon thing where they come out like this when they reach...monster puberty? And I do like the name Panopteryx.
I think it sounds like a sundry badass monster
But here's a twist! You mentioning that its part of Greek mythology triggered it off
So all the monsters you hear of in the myths: The Nemean Lion, The Sphinx, The Hydra, The Chimaera, Cerberus, or whatever you can think of
What if they all have real fact as basis?
maybe they're just everyday creatures in the Netherworld
And remember Cerberus actually is a three-headed guardian of the Underworld... (just another name for the Netherworld :P)
So in earlier times, the crossing over between Vanilla and Netherworld was a lot easier and things flowed freely. That's why these crazy tales of beasts became popular in the earlier ages, the Roman and Greek mythos. But there's a danger of destabilising the branches so travel gets restricted to portals...
Now the fabric is tearing up
As for the Panopteryx, (I'm glad you liked the name, it's simply Pan -for all, and some cool sounding suffix lol) it is a mutant creature that is best suited for the Netherworld. Every generation it rustles up a different breed by mixing and matching whatever genetic material/species it finds
What do you guys think?
XD
