This will be my fourth year doing NaNoWriMo... out of sheer bloody-minded determination I have managed to "win" every year so far, but I have grave concerns for this year!
The last three years I've also had really easy stories to write: In 2008 I rewrote (and adapted extensively) an old Supernatural fanfic, "The Far Side of the Sea", in 2009 I wrote the first half of Mai Magnum Opus, a traditional-ish fantasy novel with the working title of Halfblood. Of course, I had the intention of finishing it over the course of 2010, but that didn't happen, so NaNoWriMo 2010 rolled around... and I wrote the second half of Halfblood. On the side, got a bit ahead on my webserial, A Frequent Traveller's Guide to Jovan, which is basically a fun adventure fantasy set in a world I generally describe as ancient Rome with castles.
2011 has so far been a bit of a messy year for me, and I've only just gotten around to thinking about what I'm going to write for NaNoWriMo. I've been toying with an idea called Steadfast, which is basically a melding of Hans Christian Anderson's "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" with a fantasy world analogous to 1930s Britain. I'm actually really excited about the idea, but of course I've done no planning beyond just the fairytale inspiration, so this year's NaNo is going to be more pantsing and less planning than usual...
What is everyone else thinking of doing? Have you thought about it yet? Have you planned? Or, come Nov 1, will you be flying by the seat of your pants like me?
Wow, four years doing nano! that is amazing, you're amazing!
I haven't been thinking about november nano just yet, I just finished July and I'm currently doing August, crazy right? haha!
But my summer was pretty laid back, not many places to go out. Anyway, this will be my first official November nano and I'm thinking something along the lines of fantasy (as always). Fantasy works best with me, it's my favourite genre and I reckon it would be something I won't be bored off it so easily.
I have to start planning soon though, at least have a general idea of where I'm going with this story, and then flesh out on the details as I'm writing. Most often than not, I will feel unmotivated to continue writing when the novel is halfway done, that happened with my july nano, I barely managed to reach the 50k, (the story is still incomplete). My august nano isn't going well either, haha, I guess I should be working =/
I'm wondering whether to revive an old, abandoned storyline, or maybe expand on the world I made for the Spring Prose Comp. Or maybe even finish one of the stories started here? I really don't know...
As to what I'm doing for NaNo... Well I think my,um, well, mature protagonist, Rachael Elizabeth Anderson, might get her story at last. Only I'm going to try and do it in episodes. Maybe... We'll see. I've got an old draft that I went haywire into planning with so I'l take those bones and toss them up. Good news is my character, her space ship, and the funkyness that is Werewolves (And NO this is NOT from Twighlight - I have saved file older than all that Sparklespir (c) SpookOfNight). Anyway she's one suacy, sensuous, female dog, ready to fly about space and take on an oppressive governemnt on her own.
(Rachael snorts - I'm doing no such thing. - she smiles slightly - not that I won't make sure some jucy information gets in the, well - she wraggles her eyebrows- wrong hands....)

The only thing I have is down is the idea. Other than that I've done no planning but I'll probably wing it when November comes even though my story requires research.
I have no idea what im going to do for a plot just yet. I'm sure I'll think of something.

:) I'm looking for people to race this year, I think there's a way you can track everyones progress on the NaNo website isn't there?
