So... I hear that there might be a summer nanowrimo. I might just have to sign myself up. Any of you thinking of doing likewise?

-Fog

p.s. Oh, group Mods: would you consider switching this group to a general nanowrimo group, instead of just for 2010? Is that even possible?

@FogCat Done and done.
Oh, cool! Thanks, Nick. But what was the second thing you did? I only recall asking one thing. ( ;

Ah, well. That's for me to know and for you to find out. :)
I am considering it. '10 was my first, and I found it very conducive to consistent penning. I figure it would be nice to get more than just the one story down a year! Having said that, I have not actually gone back to the site since December.
I'm definitely going to do it if I can. It feels so satisfying to know that you've done the word count and have actually finished a proper novel. All I want to know is when it's happening. If it's during exams then there is no way I'll be able to do it :(

Bleck I'm still editing my Novemebr Novel *grin* Which I hope to have editied by the time November comes around again He HE.

I very much intend to! Even if I'm not close enough to a computer to update every day (since I'll be away), I'll still be writing and logging words.

Oh, and you can choose when to do it - any month. They're just launching it this summer. I'm a Founding Donor. *proud look*
@delorfinde: Way to go with the donating! And choose a month? That's grand. Have you decided which month you'll be writing?

I did nanowrimo back in 09... but I'm looking forward to the idea of actually having time to write during the week, as I'm only working this summer, not being a college student. (last time I wrote something like 70% in the last 5 days, if I remember correctly.) And besides, I have this book just cooking somewhere between my frontal lobe and my limbic system. ( ;

Anybody: pros/cons of posting nanowrimo novels piecemeal on protagonize?

-Foggie
@Foggie
I'm probably going to go for September :) I'm pretty busy August and although September's the first month of school, we don't have a huge amount of work and there aren't any exams, plus it gives me time to recover before NaNo! But I expect I'll cave and do July as well :)
I'm planning to do mine in July, too!

Anyone have thoughts on the pros/cons of posting them on Protag? I've not tried it, see, but I'm considering...
-Fogster
I think I'll write mine in August because I'm hopefully cherry picking in July so won't be able to spend my days writing.

I posted my NaNo novel on Protag as I went last year and I quite liked it because it meant that I could actually see how much I was writing. I usually write 1,000 word chapters so I knew that 10 chapters was 10,000 words - I found it quite satisfying. I don't think I'll be able to do that this summer as I'm away for a bit in each month but if I am near a computer I'll probably post my chapters.
PROS
Feedback, comments, typos pointed out, means you don't disappear completely from Protag while writing it, people know what you're talking about when you talk about it, blah blah blah....

CONS
Might be unpolished, if any good you might want to publish it so copyright issues, people get fed up of it, clogs activity streams!, etc.......

@Del as to the copy right stuff, you can delete the story. That's what Tasha did when Paddytum got published. Or when it was accepted to be published. (If you log out you can still see the very first part of the first chapter on the P-tag home page if it hasn't been changed.)

:} Elorithryn
@Elo - yeah, I know, but if you're some mega bestselling author then somebody out there is gonna have PDF-d it and you're screwed, they'll just spread it around and you'll lose all your money :( Not that anyone here would do that, but....
Protagonize Moderator
@Del your paranoid *grin* besides I go on the presumption that even if itw as posted here it's going to go through a few more revisions before it hits the shelfs so that pdf isn't likely to be the real deal. *grin*

:} Elorithryn
No, I'm not paranoid, I'm just going on what I've been told by numerous writing blogs / publishers' websites.
Protagonize Moderator
n that case - they are paranoid! *griggles*

:} Elorithryn
So uh... How exactly does this work?

I'm interested.

Please point me in the right direction for info etc.
@delorifinde: that actually sounds like it could make for some really good publicity. When I become a famous author with my protag story, I won't be too upset if you... uh, you know... start spreading my draft. hehe.

@Sly: Oi! Well, I'm prolly not the best to explain, but basically Nanowrimo is a novel-in-a-month, speciffically the month of November. But the folks who run nanorwrimo, (over at nanowrimo.com) are starting a summer sort of version. I don't really know much about the details, really.

I'm currently thinking of starting mine in July, and trying to reach the word count by the end of the month, but then probably finishing whatever I've started in August. I'll be posting on Protag, I think.
