Yes, as you may have guessed I'm Catastrophe, and english is my first language. My second language is Spanish, which I have learned over the last five years of Spanish classes and polished during my travels to Central/Southern America (Chile, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Mexico). I mostly speak a Mexican dialect, since I lived there for a month, but I have learned to adopt the formal Guatemalan speech or the Chilean slang when necessary. When I feel like it, I sometimes write Spanish music, but I have not attempted any stories in Spanish. I also know a small splattering of Latin, Italian, Swahili, Greek, Cakchikal, and British ;)

If I could magically have a mastery of any one language, I would choose Russian, but as of yet I know none.

I am unfortunately not unique in the sense that english is my first language - the same as (I would say) the majority or authors on here. I am almost bilingual - English and Frrench - and in this upcoming year I'll be starting Japanese and German and potentially Korean :)

Actually, my name is Julia, as you may imagine, or Juliia if you lack the tools necessary for that action. :P I'm 15 and going into my sophomore year in high school, and I've been taking spanish for 4 years (plus a spanish for beginners summer camp and a few lessons from the ever capable explorer, Dora, both when I was little) and love practicing. while I like oral conversation with fluent speakers best (I get to practice my accent, its really the only thing that turns my bad spanish into ok spanish) I love the language and love speaking, writing, and reading it, and will be happy to speak with anyone en espanol. I will warn you that mi gramatica esta horrible, pero, si puedes me comprendes, vamos a nos llevamos terrifica. Te digo como me encanta el espanol? In any case, if you don't understand what I said, its ok, just speak to me in english. :)

Hi! I am ZillaGirl. I am a fifteen year old American homeschooler. I know a little bit of Spanish, and bits in pieces of other languages from looking up sentences and random words on Google Translate (my savior!). I have started learning from Rosetta Stone's Spanish but am really thirsting to learn French (I dance ballet, and that has a lot to do with French). But my parents said I should learn Spanish instead and then take French on my own dime.....Anyways! My name is Mark (last name Satta, aka, Sattalite. It's a word pun!). I am a 22 year old American and English is my first language and the only one I am even close to fluent in. I took three years of Spanish in high school and three semesters in college. I also did a short language study in Costa Rica (three weeks) after my sophomore year in college, so I am conversational in Spanish and can convey what I need to in writing.

Since my mastery of the Spanish language isn't nearly as strong as my abilities in English the idea of writing stories in Spanish is rather frustrating, but perhaps this group will help me overcome that! If anyone more knowledgeable than I about the Spanish language is willing to give me some feedback if I were to write a story in Spanish that would be great.

I'm of Sardianian heritage (they speak Italian there...more or less) so I'd like to try and study Italian as well. We'll see what happens. I am very glad for this group though and I look forward to see what will come of it.

Alain is proud to introduce himself by saying that his first language is French, he occasionnaly speaks English (and obviously knows that he's not really good at it because of the lack of practice -but is proud to say that after a lot of verb tense struggling, he knows better how and when to use them -and knows he should end that useless sentence soon) and had been taking Spanish lessons few years ago in order to go to South America (and to have his degree, but this makes the background a little less interesting so let's forget about shall we?).

Alain would like to learn German, Italian, Portugese ... everything learnable, in fact.
(And yes, speaking of himself at the third person is part of the character; it's not some misplaced snobbery or anything like this.)

I'm American and speak English. However, besides being American, I also have dual citizenship and was actually born in Mexico while my parents were serving as missionaries there. But I've lived my whole life minus about seven months in the States. So I speak English and know quite a lot of Spanish, though I wouldn't consider myself fluent in it. I speak Spanish choppily but I understand it very well. My dad works as a paralegal helping immigrants, so I'm used to seeing plenty of mixing cultures.

I'm trying to pick up a little bit of Latin from a Latin-English dictionary, but I don't really care about learning the language; I just think Latin roots are useful for understanding English.

I'm 23-years-old and I've been studying Spanish for 9 years. I just got back from teaching English in Spain for 8 months and I'm going back to college this fall to start my Masters in Spanish and (TESL) Teaching English as a Second Language.

Languages are my passion. I haven't written much in Spanish but I hope I can change that here. I've studied French and Italian and I'm starting an intensive Portuguese class this month. I can pretty much read French and Italian and hold basic conversations.

I love how knowing another language gives you access to their poetry and stories and song lyrics. It offers you a peek into another culture's collective consciousness. Thank you so much, Rachel, for coming up with the idea and making the group.

I'm from England, so obviously my main language is English, although I'm also a part Italian, too.

I've been doing German for just over six years, so I've got fairly good at that (hoffentlich). Have started Latin recently, which is really good, and definitely worth learning. I'm applying for five universities at the moment, and my first choice (if I get an offer) will be a course which'll require me to learn German, Latin and Ancient Greek.

I've realised recently how amazing it is to learn languages, and I'm entirely enthsuastic about learning any other languages. The base of society is all about language, and how we communicate, and I believe learning different languages is central to working together with eachother as human beings.

I live in the United States, I'm fourteen, and homeschooled. I've studied Spanish for a year and a half. Technically two years, but the first year didn't go very well, so I count it as just half. Obviously, not having studied spanish for all that long, I don't know it that well, but I want to learn. If I could learn another language, it'd be latin.

I speak Latin (best in year group!) and I'm learning Greek. So far I know a few words (klimax, asbestos, genesis, hydor etc)and the alphabet. I'm also learning Spanish.
