I'm American, thus English is my native language. I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, and 2 semesters in college. I write pretty well in Spanish but my speaking could use some help. Not that you all will ever have to hear it :)
I recently started learning French with Rosetta Stone. I'm still on level 1, but I'm eager to keep working on it.
I have aspirations of learning plenty of other languages, but as of now I don't know diddly squat of them.
That's me. Your turn!
If I could magically have a mastery of any one language, I would choose Russian, but as of yet I know none.
Do I really need to introduce myself as RoseKathryns or can you all just read my name ... well there we go, I introduced myself anyway! I am unfortunately not unique in the sense that english is my first language - the same as (I would say) the majority or authors on here. I am almost bilingual - English and Frrench - and in this upcoming year I'll be starting Japanese and German and potentially Korean :)

My name is Mark (last name Satta, aka, Sattalite. It's a word pun!). I am a 22 year old American and English is my first language and the only one I am even close to fluent in. I took three years of Spanish in high school and three semesters in college. I also did a short language study in Costa Rica (three weeks) after my sophomore year in college, so I am conversational in Spanish and can convey what I need to in writing.
Since my mastery of the Spanish language isn't nearly as strong as my abilities in English the idea of writing stories in Spanish is rather frustrating, but perhaps this group will help me overcome that! If anyone more knowledgeable than I about the Spanish language is willing to give me some feedback if I were to write a story in Spanish that would be great.
I'm of Sardianian heritage (they speak Italian there...more or less) so I'd like to try and study Italian as well. We'll see what happens. I am very glad for this group though and I look forward to see what will come of it.
Alain is proud to introduce himself by saying that his first language is French, he occasionnaly speaks English (and obviously knows that he's not really good at it because of the lack of practice -but is proud to say that after a lot of verb tense struggling, he knows better how and when to use them -and knows he should end that useless sentence soon) and had been taking Spanish lessons few years ago in order to go to South America (and to have his degree, but this makes the background a little less interesting so let's forget about shall we?).
Alain would like to learn German, Italian, Portugese ... everything learnable, in fact.
(And yes, speaking of himself at the third person is part of the character; it's not some misplaced snobbery or anything like this.)
Alain wishes you a nice day!
I'm trying to pick up a little bit of Latin from a Latin-English dictionary, but I don't really care about learning the language; I just think Latin roots are useful for understanding English.
My real name is Melissa, but friends call me Missy.... or Meli... or May-leesa... or Meliverde (of course!)
I'm 23-years-old and I've been studying Spanish for 9 years. I just got back from teaching English in Spain for 8 months and I'm going back to college this fall to start my Masters in Spanish and (TESL) Teaching English as a Second Language.
Languages are my passion. I haven't written much in Spanish but I hope I can change that here. I've studied French and Italian and I'm starting an intensive Portuguese class this month. I can pretty much read French and Italian and hold basic conversations.
I love how knowing another language gives you access to their poetry and stories and song lyrics. It offers you a peek into another culture's collective consciousness. Thank you so much, Rachel, for coming up with the idea and making the group.
I'm from England, so obviously my main language is English, although I'm also a part Italian, too.
I've been doing German for just over six years, so I've got fairly good at that (hoffentlich). Have started Latin recently, which is really good, and definitely worth learning. I'm applying for five universities at the moment, and my first choice (if I get an offer) will be a course which'll require me to learn German, Latin and Ancient Greek.
I've realised recently how amazing it is to learn languages, and I'm entirely enthsuastic about learning any other languages. The base of society is all about language, and how we communicate, and I believe learning different languages is central to working together with eachother as human beings.
Ciao :)
how are you? Gavin Fitzgerald is my name and i'm seventeen years old. i live in county Cork in Ireland...
I live in the United States, I'm fourteen, and homeschooled. I've studied Spanish for a year and a half. Technically two years, but the first year didn't go very well, so I count it as just half. Obviously, not having studied spanish for all that long, I don't know it that well, but I want to learn. If I could learn another language, it'd be latin.
Means hi in Korean (Hates Romanization so not even going to attempt to write a spelling of that in English...okay it's ahn young <---pronounciation but not correct English spelling)
Anyway, my pen name is Naoshi I want to learn MANY MANY languages. My Native language is English and I know some Korean, Japanese, French, Spanish, Latin, (*some American and Japanese sign language) and whatever Tagalog and Mongolian my friends have been teaching me >.<
I know how to read (but not understand fully), write and somewhat understand conversations...I just don't speak it D:
Japanese the same as Korean
Latin I took 3 years in High school for the very reason it's a language I don't need to speak >:D
1 year of Spanish (since there are similarities to French, and the Hispanic population is rising here, I can understand it but not really speak it >.<)
I took 5+ years of French in middle school and high school but I don't speak it...I used to know how to translate literary works really well...but am VERY rusty now and I want to try writing in French...but I...just don't D:
Since I'll be going to Taiwan soon, I hope to learn Mandarin and Cantonese, heck I just want to learn everything ^O^
I love languages, even though I'm not amazing but I also enjoy using google translate to talk to my friends in such languages as Yiddish!

Je parlez anglais et francais,
Latin and greek
I realised I'd been in this group for some time but had never actually introduced myself. I'm Ciara. My first language is English and my second is French. I'm not entirely fluent in French, but I'm competent. I also know smatterings of other languages but not quite enough to put to any proper use. I finally introduced myself here because I decided to try to write some more French poetry (I've written one French poem so far) and came looking for inspiration. :)
~~~
Salut,
J'ai réalisé que j'avais été un membre de ce groupe depuis quelque temps mais je n'avais jamais réellement me suis présenté. Je m'appelle Ciara. Ma langue maternelle est l'anglais et ma langue seconde est le français. Je ne parle pas couramment le français exactement, mais je le parle avec compétence. J'ai connaissance de certaines autres langues aussi, mais je ne sais pas assez pour les mettre à toute utilisation réelle. Je me suis présenté finalement car j'ai décidé d'essayer d'écrire de la poésie française un peu plus (J'ai écrit un poème français seulement jusqu'ici) et je suis venu chercher pour l'inspiration. :)
