For this month's contest, I want you to find a picture that really speaks to you and write the following exercise:

Compose a flash fiction piece of 300 - 1,000 words in length. The piece must adhere to the characteristics of flash fiction -- you must have a protagonist and a conflict, although whether or not this conflict is resolved is up to you. Your last and most important rule is that it must be inspired by a picture. Please include a link to your picture within your post.

You have until August 31st to enter. Write your entry as you would any other story on Protagonize, and then come back here and provide the link in a comment so that we can read it. Don't forget to also include a link where we can see the picture that inspired your piece!

I will be announcing the winner on September 1st. Good luck! :D

I am speechless after reading this, truly. That such a beautiful piece could be inspired by one picture... I like you use passive voice when describing Piotr, which underscores his amazement at Maria's revelation. And Maria is such a fleshed out character that I felt as though I could really see her in my mind's eye. This is an amazing piece, schuleg! Very well done.

Oh, and if you could, schuleg, go on and post this in a regular story on Protagonize. It will get more readership that way and it really deserves the attention! Please come back and provide the link to the story if you publish it.
OK guys.. This challenge really worked me hard I have been trying to get out of my regular style and try something new.. I think I achieved it but I had to go dark again :) let me know what you think.

Here is my entry. It sort of defies category. It's not really horribly horrible. It is a mystery, but not really a thriller. It is full of suspense, and kind of fun, if you've got a creepy turn of mind like I do. Feedback is welcome.
