Me? I play the violin/fiddle, the flute and piccolo and the piano, though I've only just started that last one. I also mess around with various tin whistles etc, because they're good fun. When I'm older I'd like to let go of the Classical music my parents make me do, at least on the violin, and concentrate on Irish music, although I am fond of film music.

Currently I'm studying Schindler's List on the violin, as well as my exam pieces. I'm working on various tunes on the fiddle. On the flute it's mostly just exam pieces and CPE Bach's Sonata in A Minor, and for the piano I'm struggling with Grade 3.

How about you lot?

I play the keyboard, but I'm not very focused so I'm only on Grade 2. :P
My favourite piece to play is either My Heart Will Go On or Take A Bow. :D

I also sing, but I don't take lesson. Yup, I sing for fun! XD I've tried getting lessons with the same company that issues my keyboard lessons, but they are full! :'(

That's it really. Oh, and I write songs. Fortunately none of them are up on here yet so nobody knows how bad they are. :L

I'm sure they're not that bad, are they?

Hey, as a group moderator I can actually edit other people's comments! Wow, that's weird.

Anyhow, moving on. Won't abuse the privilege, of course.

So, you play the keyboard. Focus - yeah that's a difficult one. I'm supposed to teach myself / learn from my Dad with the piano, but it doesn't happen very often.

Well I am mainly a singer (I'm not sure if this counts as a musician as you don't have a physical instrument) and I'm working towards taking my Grade 8 next term *bites nails nervously* I also sing in the choir and am a very proud member of the cast for this year's school production of Carmen *more biting of nails*
I also play the flute but I only began playing *counts on fingers* three years ago, so I'm not that great, but I have just taken my grade 4 exam and am waiting for the results *crosses fingers hopefully*
I also play piano and have just finished playing River Flows in You by Yiruma (a beautiful piece of music despite it's connection to the Twilight films) which I think is my biggest piano triumph to date. I don't take exams in that because (and don't laugh at me) I can't sightread read two lines of music at once. There is a genuine reason why I can't do that - my eyes are a bit freaky and I can only see out of one eye at once which makes it hard to jump from one stave to another (dotty fun fact number one!)

Great idea, Del!! I joined promptly! :D

I play piano (and dance, too, but seeing as this is a topic pertaining to music, I'll remain in that realm. hehe) Currently I am working on Rachmaninoff's Prelude (op 3, no 2, I believe....sometimes I get the "numbers" confused with each another. hehe...again) for an audition. Just finished Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata for a recital. Mainly enjoy classical, but have fun with on occasions with classic rock songs for the piano.

Once again, great idea for a group. Absolutely excellent! :)

Thank you very much ;)

Ah, be sure to post a comment in the Dance topic too! And if you've come across any other dancers on Protag (I'm sure you have) please direct them over here. It'll only let me invite fans, for some reason, on the Group Management page. Odd. I guess it's to stop people just inviting everyone.

Anyway. Moving on ... ;D

I've asked Nick to move the Musician's Corner topic from the Pub over to here, so that should be good.

Oops, dotty, didn't reply to your comment :)

Ha, flute-buddies, yay. And you must be good at singing, if you're grade 8.

Hi. Very interesting about your eye. Does the condition have a name?

Yey another flutie person! I do love the flute, but I prefer it when my best friend plays it because she's grade 7 and it sounds so much nicer than when I try!

I suppose you could say I'm good at singing, but as an alto it means I don't get to sing the tune in choir :( but my school chamber choir is very excited at the moment as we've just got into the final of the Barnado's National Choir competition *dances wildly around her bedroom* so I guess we're doing something right!

Umm I don't think it does, it just means I can look in two different directions at once without noticing - that tends to freak people out though! :D

Not really the right place to ask, m'dear, but if you must know, once you've posted the topic press 'Edit' next to the title and you'll find it there. A little puzzling, I know.

@dottylotti -

Yay, another alto! Hooray. Down with sopranos!
I'm grade 7 on flute, too, though I haven't practised in a while so it probably sounds terrible. *guilty grin*

I am afraid that I must confess to being a former soprano *looks at the floor ashamed* but then my voice dropped and I saw the light - the altos in our choir have much more fun anyway!
I know - I left my flute at school over Christmas so I haven't practised since my exam so I'll probably be really rusty when I get back to school in January :S

You know, the sole reason (well, not the sole reason. One of the reasons) that I prefer Eponine to Cosette in Les Mis is because she's an alto. She's also a nicer person who has a crap life, but hey ho.

Cosette annoys the hell out of me! And not just in Castle on a Cloud, even when she's grown up she annoys me! If I were ever to sing on stage, I would want to be Eponine just because I prefer her songs - On My Own is one of my favourite songs ever and A Little Fall of Rain makes me cry every time I listen to it :'(
Although I used to want to be Christine from Phantom of the Opera, but now I would rather play the Phantom!

Cosette is so - so - so perfect. She has too much. She's got the boy. She STOLE HIM FROM EPONINE!

And she's a soprano.

But I need to get off here before I get too het up. Bed time for me!

I know someone like that she's just so PERFECT! *glares at she-who-shall-not-be-named* but she's so lovely you just can't hate her no matter how much you try! She's a soprano too - and she's got a solo in Carmen, which I didn't get *scowls again* all I got was a speaking part with one line!

*slaps face* stop doing that! These people don't want to hear about that.

Night Del!

Yeah, I know! You want to hate people because they're amazing and grade 8 on every instrument and they were headhunted by the London Schools Symphony Orchestra and they're getting A*s all the time and they're amazingly beautiful ... and you just can't, because when you're getting really jealous they do something like take you out to the cinema, just because you looked a little down and they thought it might cheer you up.

No one's ever done that to me, though, just to clarify. It was, uh, an imaginary scenario.

Of course, it's all completely hypothetical!
Although my imaginary perfect person hasn't quite gone as far as to ask me out to, well, anything. But she's miss popular and I'm the geeky one who wants to be a writer - we move in COMPLETELY different circles!

Must go. Off to spend the day with my cousin *groan* She's sweet and that, but she genuinely IS loopy ...

About this group

<- For that lot.

Are you a dancer or musician? Whatever kind - it doesn't matter. But I'd like to see you in my group, to discuss ... well, dance and music. Should be fun, hmm?

Come on, don't be shy. Come along, introduce yourself. Who are you? How long have you been dancing/playing? What sort of dance or music do you do? Instruments; shoes; performances; competitions; exams?
