Historical Fantasy anyone? :)

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if anyone have read any books by Juliet Marillier? They are all historical fiction set in 15th/16th century Britain/Ireland, and most are based around a sort of magical quest with a bit of romance. I've just finished Heart's Blood and am dying to write something similar!

So what I thought was that we could base the story in the 15th century, but at the same time make up a parallel world to it, with lots of mythical creatures and magic and stuff. And there could be a massive quest! I don't know what kind of quest as of yet, but that's what collab brainstorms are for, right? The whole idea is still very vague, but it's historical fiction with a quest and some romance along the way.

So there would definitely be a heroine and a hero, maybe an evil force, but I'm not certain on the number of collaborators we should have. I'd like to write for either the heroine or hero though :)

Anyone interested?
This sounds interesting, but I'm a complete history nerd, so we'd have to make it completely accurate :PP To be honest, nothing interesting happened in the fourteen-hundreds, except maybe Columbus sailing the ocean and *!%!t. Butttt. I dunno if you know much about the fifteen hundreds? That was when King Henry XIII was in power, and also Queen Elizabeth. It was when the pirates destroyed the Spanish Armada. Pirates are cool.

Sorry, I just realized I totally ranted at you :((
Well, historical accuracy might need to give way if you threw in magic and other cool-ass stuff
But a good yardstick is Naomi Novik's 'Temeraire' series
the idea is tempting if any one's willing to attempt it
I mean, we'd be able to take author's liberation rights and all, but we'd have to incorporate some real events, or else it wouldnt be historical fantasy at all. Just fantasy set in a world similar to our past.
Fair enough!
There's only so much you can stretch poetic license, especially if you're writing alternate history...
As in, how would the Civil War turn out with Orcs if the Confederates actually had warlocks working for them, and the Union decided to ask the English to help out....
Or yeah!
Right, something like that :PP
Henry VIII and Elizabeth I sounds good to me! I know a bit more about the Tudor than the period previous, to be honest :) (actually there was a time I completely obsessed with the Tudors and read all that I could read about them...) So any ideas?
I'm not even remotely familiar with the Tudor period, though I've hear its a hoot!

But maybe something I can read up on if we're going in that direction
Is there any other medieval/renaissance period you're more comfortably with? Unless if you don't mind doing Tudors. They're actually really interesting, what with the whole Henry VIII and his 6 wives, and Queen Bloody Mary as well.
I'll read up on it, sounds like fun to me...
But if you can suggest something, I'd appreciate it
As in suggest something to read or suggest another topic? If it's something to read, then I recommend starting with Henry VIII and his first two wives, Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn. There are a lot of novels out there that are really good, but I dunno if the ones I've read would be to your taste since they were based mainly around the women and is more feminine.
Both actually...
I'm going to brush up on what you just suggested anyway
I'm sure I'll find the Cliff's notes version!

I just happen to be fond of everything past the Civil War till the Cold War
lol
I had that very same obsession with the Tudors! Did you read The Other Boleyn Girl? :DD
I haven't read The Other Boleyn Girl, although it's somewhere near the top of my to-read list atm :) I've read heap of other ones about them though, but this was a few years ago so my memory's a bit rusty. I've read all the ones by Carolyn Meyer and a few others that I can't remember...

The Civil War is interesting too! Although the only novel I've read of that is Gone With The Wind, so I don't know as much. But I do know WWI and the Russian Revolution relatively well, since we did that for history last year. So we can do that as well if you prefer?
Or wwii. I know a lot about hitler
WWII is a good idea! So shall we settle on that? (although I kinda secretly want to write about the Tudors as well xD)
Hum. How many people are there? I totally promised myself I wouldnt do anymore collabs :PP
Well there are just us three so far :) Naww come on do just this one collab, you can break a promise once in a while xD It doesn't need to be like those hard core collab with a million updates a week, we can just work around our schedules if you'd like.
Okayyy, finee :PP But did you see the list of stories on my profile? I just joined about three more.
@TheRosesBloom:
Well, that's okay I think I have about 3 myself not to mention the solos I'm supposed to be working on
Buuuut... we can work slowly on this one...
A story like this will require some research anyway, so we won't posting like super regularly, am I right, @HeyJude?
Also, thumbs up for WWII/ Hitler, something that actually has a lot of basis in historical fact
If we read up about the Thule society and Hitler's obsession with the occult, we'll find more material to work with...
Sound good?
