1. How would you summarize your book in one sentence?
It's 350 pages long!
2. How long did it take you to write this book?
About 6 months.
3. Where is your favorite place to write?
In my office at home, or sometimes on my boat.
4. How do you choose your characters' names?
They just come to me, then I Google them to see if I might get sued.
5. How many drafts do you go through?
It's different for each book -- usually just one full draft, then some revisions.
6. If there was one book you wish you had written what would it be?
The Holy Bible; King James version. Or maybe, The Complete Shakespeare.
7. If your book were to become a movie, who would you like to see star in it?
Me, of course. I need more adulation.
8. What's your favourite city in the world?
Miami; New York; or San Sebastian, Spain.
9. If you could talk to any writer living or dead who would it be, and what would you ask?
Probably my wife. I'd ask her to rub my neck.
10. Do you listen to music while you write? If so, what kind?
Yes. Usually classical -- Bach for solo instruments is my favorite. If it's a Dexter killing scene, Phillip Glass.
11. Who is the first person who gets to you read your manuscript?
My wife, always, even before it's done.
12. Do you have a guilty pleasure read?
No. I'm never guilty about reading.
13. What's on your nightstand right now?
The Tourist, by Olen Steinhauer, and the Complete Novels of Jane Austen, and Vaudeville Humor
14. What is the first book you remember reading?
Tarzan of the Apes.
15. Did you always want to be a writer?
Mostly; for a while I wanted to be an inventor. Then I discovered I'm horrible at math and science.
16. What do you drink or eat while you write?
Coffee and water.
17. Typewriter, laptop, or pen & paper?
Computer, either desktop or laptop, depending on where i am.
18. What did you do immediately after hearing that you were being published for the very first time?
Called my mother.
19. How do you decide which narrative point of view to write from?
Based on which person best suits the narrative and other goals I have for the book.
20. What is the best gift someone could give a writer?
Money. No question. Or maybe a chateau in the south of France. And for me personally, a few cases of 1963 Chateau Rothschild.
