One thing I have noticed is the amount of people who believe in a God, but not the work that reveals him. Allow me to explain.
If one believes in God, but not the work that reveals him then they will have an ungrounded faith because there is no cornerstone to their faith.
Without a book that is seen as true: who's to say that Jesus really died for our sin? Who's to say that sin ever existed? Who's to say that every single other religion is right or wrong? Who's to say that there's a God at all? Who's to say that there is a trinity? Who's to say that there is redemption?
Without a book, a cornerstone of belief, the faith falls apart with logic.
"If this part of your book is wrong, who's to say the rest of it isn't?"
If someone looks at the Bible and says, "God, I don't agree that you should be violent, or jealous, or angry at sin. So instead, I'm going to believe that you are none of those things."
Very well, but the Bible clearly states those, on a number of occaisions.
God is Violent: "Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you." (Exodus 33:5) "So he [Jesus] made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables." (John 2:15) "Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS." (Revelation 19:15-16)
God is Jealous: "Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God." (Exodus 34:14) "Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?" (1 Corinthians 10:22)
God is Angry at Sin: "The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You [God] hate all who do wrong;" (Psalm 5:5) "The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil." (Matthew 13:41) "
And so, if one looks at these verses and still concludes that God is not any of these things, then he is sorely mistaken and needs to repent and be filled with God's Holy Spirit. And about Homosexuality, it is clear many places in the Bible that it is wrong. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 18:22.
Therefore, listen to God's Word. Because it is the basis of your faith, without you would have no faith in God or saving faith in Christ. Believe every word, for it is true. And I will leave you with this passage.
"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error."
(Romans 1:18-20, 26-27)
