It was time. Time to confess. Time to let them know what really happened that night at the subway. Time...it seems that there was precious little of it after all, and we had wasted enough already.
I had to tell them what I knew.
I took a deep breath, steadied my voice, and dried my tears. I looked up at Jade, who was crying with me, pearly tears running silently down her transparent face and fading before they hit the ground. I was so grateful to her, for all she had done. We were in this together. We were the same.
She saw my glance, and knew what I was thinking. She nodded. "You have to tell them, Ethan. Tell them everything."
"I know," I whispered, and the thought brought the sting of fresh tears to my eyes. I let them fall. Jade stretched her hand out and caught one. She smiled and pushed the hair back from my face. "I will always be here for you, Ethan," she whispered. "Remember that. When you are lost, you will find me here." She laid a cold finger over my heart, smiled one last sad smile, and faded from sight.
It was time.
