I was only half asleep and was vaguely aware of a conversation bein' held near me but I couldn't have told ya who was involved. I felt a familar heat fill the room which I knew was sunshine and decided now would be a good time to wake up. I saw Chesh sat beside me and Sylvester opposite.
"Mornin' boys!" I said cheerfully with a smile.
Sylvester just kinda nodded, his mind obviously somewhere else. Frankly I don't blame him, a lot happened last night. Chesh, on the other hand, decided a more physical greeting was in order. He wrapped me in a hug, tickling the tip of my nose with his tail. He gave a quiet little moan and loosened the hug a little.
"Ariiiii, can I have a kiss?" he asked sweetly.
I paused. Chesh was a very affectionate person, he practically kissed everyone he met, and he got real upset if he got turned down. And besides, I'd known Chesh for almost as long as I'd been a vampire. In the time we'd known each other, I'd lost count of how many hugs and kisses we'd shared but none of them meant anything. But the others didn't know that. Ah, to hell with 'em. I could explain later.
"Sure" I said with a smile and gave Chesh a quick peck on the lips.
He purred happily and turned his attention to Sylvester. "Aren't you going to give him one?" he asked. Was that a hint of smugness in his voice?
"Well, he's already got one outta me. If he wants another one he's gonna have to work for it" I said, winking at Sylvester.
He looked like he was about to say something but was interupted by the sound of glass smashing. And the smell of blood. The three of us ran out of the living room in time to see Asha jumping outta the window. She was following the scent of another vampire. I could smell him over the strange blood in the room. Jay followed her but I don't think she knew. Chesh hissed a little and Sylvester looked as if he was about to follow Jay and Asha.
"Don't. This is Asha's battle" I said solemly.
I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach that it wasn't going to end well.
