I smiled, watching as Hazel left and shut the bathroom door. A whistle passed my lips and I walked into my room, What a day! So many unfelt emotions were bursting within me and I didn't know what to do or how to express them. Hazel had become like a sister to me, no, more than a sister. I walked into my room and sat against my bed, today had been perfect.
My gaze drifted slowly out my window and was held by another beauty. When I was little, I always used to have a fascination with the moon, how it would hover quietly bringing light to the night sky. A shiver ran up my spine, the hunger was returning.
I bit my lower lip and tried to hold out, just stay calm, I told myself. My stomach growled but I ignored it, lying on my bed and closing my eyes. Minutes ticked by as I restlessly tossed and turned, finally I conceited. Walking back out into the main room I discovered Hazel, in pajamas, watching TV.
"Hey," I said softly, walking behind the couch. She turned, hair still wet from the shower. I could even smell the sweet scent of her shampoo.
"Hi," she said cheerily.
"Hazel, I'm gonna go for a walk. I'll be back in a little bit." I turned towards the door.
"What else?" she asked, sensing something. I sighed, somehow I knew she would be able to tell.
"I'm...uh...I'm going to feed." Her expression darkened, incredulously. She stood and crossed her arms. I looked back sheepishly, giving a slight shrug. Her eyes asked 'Can you control yourself?' I winced but nodded. Hazel let a held breath go and nodded back.
"I'll behave myself, I promise." I said as I turned and walked out the door. The cool night air brushed against my face and ruffled my jacket, it was silent. My stomach growled again and a heat burned across my eyes. Fine! My footsteps carried me across the campus and toward the feeding pen.
A growl passed my lips as I pushed the door open and took a deep breath. The sweet iron smell wash through me and made my body shiver with hunger. Control...stay in control. I walked about the room, making my choice as though at a grocery store. That one! I knelt next to one, my open mouth hovering over their pulsing vein.
It pushed at my mental walls breaking them further, deepening the cracks. Carefully I pushed my fangs through the humans skin and into their vein. For the first time, I was in control. I drafted enough blood to barely sate my hunger and keep the human alive. I stood, licking my lips and left, shutting the door behind me. The hunger was still there though, shoving at my mental barriers, screaming at me to go back and drink...kill. I promised Hazel, I shouted back.
"So now you don't even have the guts to kill your own food? You're still so pathetic!" I turned around sharply but no one was there. "Come on, just one more bite, give in and drink deep they're just humans. Lousy, lying, murderous humans." I looked around trying to discover the source of the female voice.
"Turned Vampires," a different, male voice scoffed "What a waste!" Finally my eyes caught sight of two silhouettes not that far from where I was standing, Arren and Avalon. I stopped and watched the two as they drew near.
"What do you want with me?!" I barked back, emotion seething under my skin.
"Aren't you hungry?" Avalon taunted me, displaying her artery in the moonlight. I tried with all my will to look away, but my gaze locked on her neck and my eyes shifted to solid crimson. My fangs displayed as an internal war raged within me. BITE HER! It teased, keeping my gaze on Avalon's pulsing vein. I shook my head, No, I promised Hazel! The bloodlust shifted behind my mental walls. Hazel isn't here...
