"Hello…?" she said.
"Hello!" I whispered in a fake accent. "Long time no speak eh Betty?"
I could hear her thinking. "This isn't Betty." she replied. "Sorry."
She hung up immediately and I pocketed my phone. I returned to the counter and made myself look busy. Keri approached. "Something wrong?" she asked, her voice betraying how little she actually cared.
"Nothing." I replied harshly, dropping to my knees. I started to sort out things on the floor, hiding from Saoirse. My mind ticked over - what should I do? Tell her the truth? No, it was too late. Maybe I just pretend it didn't happen.
I nodded to myself before getting up. "I don't believe you." Keri uttered, looking straight at me.
"Were you just stood there all that time?" I asked, wondering if that question should have stayed in my head. She nodded before walking away. She muttered something about me under her breath but I didn't take any notice of it. I carried on with my work for a bit before I noticed Saoirse coming towards me. I smiled at her briefly.
"Everything alright?" she asked, nudging me in the side. I nodded but she wasn't happy with that. "You don't look it."
"I'm fine." I stated, flashing a fake smile at her before turning away.
I swivelled around to face her. "What?"
"It was cute - I'll give you that." she said before wandering off.
"How?" I called after her.
"You aren't very good at accents." She didn't even look at me, instead doing something that made Keri laugh rather loudly.
