“I honestly don’t know”.
Great! So we’re stuck here and nobody has a clue why…Jadia thought angrily to herself.
Suddenly a loud bang came from upstairs and Sapphire took charge again and suggested they make their way up there, but Esmerelda wasn’t too certain about the decision.
“What if it’s not another person?” She asked.
What else could it be? Jadia thought. But she didn’t really want to know.
Jadia searched in her mind. “Nope, it’s definitely a person,” she said, not 100% sure, but wanting to spite Esmerelda all the same.
An even louder bang came from upstairs, so Sapphire sped off down the corridor.
“Sapphire,” called Jadia, “The stairs are the other way!”
Sapphire turned around, frowned at her, then broke into a grin.
“Well, what are we waiting for then? Come on!” She said, as she grabbed Jadia’s wrist.
Reaching the upstairs corridor, Jadia found that she was starting to lead the others, sensing movement from a door somewhere further down the corridor. When they arrived at said door, it was obviously the one; the panels had certainly taken a battering.
“Hello? Is there someone in there?” Esmerelda called through the wood.
Jadia put her hand on the door; there was definitely someone there.
“Yeah!” Came a voice, “I’m locked in. Can you help?”
“Stand back,” Called Sapphire. Then she put her hands onto the door and it burst into flames.
The scream from inside the room echoed the panic that was spreading through Jadia.
“Don’t worry,” Esmerelda said, “We’ve got it under control.” She put her hands out towards the fire and let the beams of water shoot to it. Soon there was nothing left but hazy smoke.
Sapphire blew on her palms, then reached in and helped out the dirty blonde girl. Jadia would have, but she didn’t trust herself to go anywhere near the scene of a fire.
The new girl was surprised to see three very different teenage girls standing outside the room she had been held in, all watching her with the same tentative focus; reading into her every move.
“I’m Kate, who are you?”
“Esmerelda. Are you okay?”
“I’m not sure; I just woke up trapped in that room. Where are we, by the way?”
“What do we do now?”
