Everyone had arrived. Some later than others, but everyone had come. It was time for me to reveal my ultimate plan of total, utter awesomeness. I subconsciously wondered if any of them wouldn't agree to go along with it, but I pushed the thought out of my mind.
I stood at the front of the room, with everyone staring up at me. Sierra was staring at me especially strangely. Almost lustfully. It scared me. I almost wanted to plead her never to...well...have her way with me again. But I restrained myself.
"What's this plan of yours, Kevin?" Ashtyn asked, smiling her sweet smile.
"Look," I said quietly. "I've never done anything exciting my entire life."
"Except that one night," Sierra cut in.
I looked at her. "Yeah, right."
She looked satisfied.
"Anyway," I continued. "My whole life I've lived in my parent's shadows. And I want to do something interesting for once."
"So?" Matt said, folding his arms.
I sighed. "Look, our city is always being affected by crime. I mean, take my parents---"
"Please tell me you aren't going to go on some kind of revenge thing," Matt said, frowning.
I frowned. "The next person who interrupts me is going to get my foot shoved up their ass. Understood?"
Sierra smiled seductively. "I wouldn't mind that."
A look of horror crept across my face. "Anyway..." I shook it off and continued talking. "Where was I?"
"Crime," Ashtyn said.
"Right. See, there's so much crime in the town, and I want to put an end to it. Unfortunately, it's a little difficult to get into a police force without going through years of college crap. And who cares about the law if you're breaking it to kill the people who are breaking it?!"
No one spoke for a few seconds.
Ashtyn said, "That doesn't make any sense."
"I know," I said, whining. "But listen! I want to start a team of vigilantes. I want to kill the bad guys before they can hurt the innocent."
"But, the police will try to arrest us," Sierra said quietly.
"The police are always trying to arrest Spiderman, and they never even get close!"
"Well, this is the real world, Kevin," Sierra said in an annoying way.
"SHUT UP!" I whined. "Look, I just want to do something interesting with my life. I want to be able to kick ass and have fun!!"
"How are we even going to pull something like this off?" Derrick asked. His first words since he got here.
"I've got a lot of cash. I could buy every gun store in the city, make a factory in a secluded area outside of town, and then I'll buy some tanks and helicopters...then we just blow shit up!"
Everyone was quiet.
"Who's with me?"
It wasn't a very good speech, but I was convinced that at least Ashtyn would be with me.
She was the first to raise her hand.
Sierra, when she saw Ashtyn raise her hand, rose hers too.
The other two guys raised their hands too.
I smiled. "Now all we need is a name. An epic name. A name that will echo throughout the ages."
Everyone leaned forward.
"And that name. Is."
I paused for dramatic effect.
"THE VIGILANT E'S!"
Everyone was silent.
"The Vigilant E's?" Ashtyn asked slowly.
"Yeah! It sounds like Vigilantes, you know?"
Everyone shook their head.
"That's lame," Matt said.
"Well, we'll come up with a better one later. For now, you guys head home and practice being a bad-ass."
Everyone stood, except Ashtyn and quickly jumped out the window.
"We'll meet here tomorrow at noon, okay!?" I yelled after them.
Ashtyn stood quietly. "Umm...Kevin...I'm with you, but...I can't do anything... I can't fight..."
"Look, you can be a secretary. You can type SUPER fast. You can help us get information. You can check police scanners, you can do all that shit. But I really want you on this team."
I looked into her eyes and pushed away the hair that went over left eye. "Because, Ashtyn...I..."
Then I said it.
