Zoraan looked back once in the direction he left Sveta. "Funny... two years ago, when we first met, she tried to kill me... I wonder if she would do so now?" He smiled to himself. "Well, I trust her enough to make her own decisions. If she ever wishes to kill me again, well... then I wasn't a very good friend." He picked up Shadis's body and walked out of the passage, and into the royal guards.
For a moment, they all stared at him with eyes opened wide, the prodigal son carrying his dead brother in his arms. Then one of them approached him, and took out his sword.
Zoraan merely watched, not knowing what he planned to do now.
The guard knelt to the ground and bowed his head before Zoraan, and stated, loud and clear. "All Hail King Zoraan Koles!"
The other guards followed suit. "ALL HAIL KING KOLES!"
Zoraan's eyes opened wide. "So, I'm king then? That means father-"
"Passed away shortly before your arrival, oh king," the guard answered. "Shadis was to be crowned later today, but since he is dead, that leaves you the only heir to the throne."
The guards stood up, and saluted. Zoraan shook his head in exasperation. The thought of himself, running an entire nation! It was a lot to take in, especially after just escaping from prison, finding your jerk of a brother dead, and having to leave your friends behind in order to explain matters...
Zoraan thought for a moment, and then nodded. "Right, then. I must know: are there any people my brother associated with? I wish to meet them if possible."
"Only a man who refused to give his name to us, only Shadis... and all of us didn't like his presence, and Shadis himself seemed to be afraid of him."
"Is he in the palace?"
"Odds are likely that he is."
Zoraan nodded. "Gather a squad and find him. I will personally take part in this search."
"Do as I say. If I am to be king, then I must take the lead... or no one will follow."
The soldier stared at him for a second, and then nodded. "As you command, Your Highness."
Zoraan looked at him for a second, then let out a small chuckle. "I don't know if I'll ever get used to this."
