"Then how do mermaids reproduce?" Denver asked, he actually didn't realize what he had just done, I realized with a grin. I couldn't help it, when I saw Cindy's face turn red I burst out laughing along with the rest of the class. The teacher glared at him and he turned almost as pink as Cindy.
After class got out I went shooting out the door and just ran. I didn't wait for the others, not even Denver. Running was my solace. The class had been a total joke, mermaids weren't like that, but that wasn't what was bugging me. All the others seemed to have abilities, heck Cindy had even made us invisible! What could I do though? Nothing.
I stopped for a second to fling off my socks and shoes, once they left my body they just kind of melted. That was always what happened, as soon as the clothes we had formed as we transformed from mer to human left our bodies, they melted into nothing. I smiled as I felt the ground against my feet. I looked around...there was a park not far away. I took off running for it, I loved the feeling of dirt beneath my bare feet and between my toes. It just felt...right...that's the only way I can explain it.
I kept running at a steady pace, all the way through the park and onto the lake shore. There was no one around so I decided to go for a swim. I dived in without slowing down, moving from running to swimming in one fluid motion. the change barely hurt at all anymore, I did it so often. I swam for about an hour before I had finally cleared my head of frustration and it wasn't until I came back up on shore that I saw Denver coming up to the beach. "Dry me off?" I asked him with a grin as he approached. He smiled and I felt all the water being pulled off of me it formed into a giant ball in front of me. I saw his cheeky grin a second before it came hurtling toward my face and I only just managed to dodge it.
"I said dry me off not get me wet again! You jerk!" I said, with a huge grin plastered across my face.
