Only 20 minutes late, better than I expected.
I smiled slightly to myself, maybe this school wouldn’t be as bad as I first thought, after all, I’d already spotted a few fit girls wondering around.
As I turned the corner, my smile grew bigger, there were books strewn all over the floor, and a very pretty girl struggling to pick them all up... time for me to come to the rescue.
“Need a hand?” I asked, flashing my most charming smile.
“Yes, please.” She said, returning my smile “I’m such an idiot, I’m already late and now I’ve gone and chucked my books every where, this is so typical of me.”
I quickly picked up all the books and returned them to their owner, who smiled broadly at me.
“I’m Asher,” I said, smiling again
“I’m Isla, where are you heading now?”
“Me too, good, I really didn’t want to have to walk in on my own.” Isla said, turning and walking down the corridor “Oh, and by the way, that whole smiley charm thing won’t work on me.”
I stopped in my tracks, no girl had ever said that to me before. I smiled to myself, I always like a challenge.
Isla stopped outside the door of the potions classroom.
“Oh God, we have that Professor Svadilfari don’t we?” She whispered, looking agitated
“Yup,” I smiled, “He looks like a right miserable dick doesn’t he? I’m sure I can have some fun with him,”
I winked at Isla, who just groaned and rolled her eyes.
“You can do whatever you like, just please don’t get me in trouble, I really don’t need it.”
“Whatever,” I said as I opened the classroom door, Isla quickly marched in front of me.
“I’m really sorry sir, I dropped my books all over the corridor, and then Asher stopped to help me, I’ll get –“
Professor Svadilfari, who hadn’t even looked at Isla the whole time she’d been speaking, held up his hand, a gesture which made Isla stop speaking immediately.
“I have no time for your blathering Miss…?”
“Winters, Isla Winters.” Isla muttered
“Ah, yes of course. The half fairy.” Professor Svadilfari said, raising an eyebrow, Isla looked angry and was about to speak again but Professor Svadifari interrupted her again “I suggest you save your self a months worth of detention and just sit down.”
Isla and I wondered over to the only empty desk in the whole classroom, which was right in front of the Professors desk, I smiled, perfect place for me to get right up his nose.
I looked over at Isla, she had a very strange expression on her face, like she either wanted to cry or kill someone.
“What’s up?” I muttered
She shook her head, “Nothing, just leave it.”
I raised my eyebrows, but decided to say nothing more; she obviously didn’t want to talk.
Professor Svadilfari had obviously been in the middle of some kind of lecture when we interrupted, because the second we sat down he immediately started droning on about some bizarre potion ingredients, and I immediately switched off. I was glad I was late; there was no way I could have taken a full hour of this.
“Mr. Grey?” Professor Svadilfari droned, immediately the whole class craned their necks to stare at me.
“Would you mind telling me exactly how the common herb of basil can become lethal and which ingredients you have to combine it with to do so.”
”No, sir, I can’t.” I said coolly
“And why exactly can’t you tell me?”
“Sorry sir, I wasn’t listening. Actually, I think I might have drifted off about 30 seconds into this lecture.” I smiled
Isla was glaring at me, her expression clearly reading ‘what the hell are you doing?’ I just winked at her and turned back to the professor.
“GET. OUT. OF. MY. CLASSROOM!” The professor growled “NOW!”
I tried not to burst out laughing as I gathered up my things and strolled out the classroom.
“Oh, and that will be 6 weeks of detention, every weekday night. Be here at seven tonight.” He said quietly yet firmly as he closed the door behind me.
I smiled to myself, only the first day and still one teacher already hated me. This school would definitely be fun.
I might stick it out after all, for a little bit anyway…
