To call me terrified would be an understatement--the understatement of the year in fact. I mean, really. First I'm born with powers, second I'm kidnapped, then I'm in a plane on my way to go train using the powers I was born with, and then the plane gets shot down. Just lovely. A typical day in the life of Xingjuan Chen. Goodness.
I could have been a lot more helpful than I was being, just sitting on the ground, practically rolled up in a ball sobbing. Well, I could have been at least kind of helpful. Considering I knew where we were. No one else knew, but I did. The pilot was dead, and he'd be the only other person who knew anything about our location.
Regardless, I said nothing.
The other animals in the circus, though, just wouldn't shut up. Like this one kid. I heard her name spoken a few times. Olivia something. Whatever her name is, she just wouldn't stop screaming and blabbering on about how scared she was.
Blah. Blah. Blah.
Give it a rest, I thought as she stomped back and forth, raging about something that really made no sense. She was probably scared, but so was I. I suppose everyone deals with fear differently, but I certainly didn't throw a fit when I was scared. I just...well...rolled up in a ball.
"So where are we?" someone suddenly asked, pulling me out of my little world. They didn't direct the question at me--or anyone in particular, really. It didn't matter though, because I answered the question.
"We're about 5.6 miles off of Cagliari, Italy."
Everyone quieted. They all looked at me. Even Ms. Loud&Obnoxious went silent.
"Well, stop staring and let's go," I snapped, standing. I pointed west. "We head that way, and we'll eventually hit civilization. Maybe we can find someway to contact our families and get home from there."
One guy stepped forward. "I thought we were going to go train with some guy in Switzerland. You know, and save the world."
I frowned. "Yeah, look how that worked out for us." I motioned to the smoking plane sitting about a football field away.
Everyone looked at each other and then back at me.
Ms. Loud&Obnoxious said, "I'm with her."
My eyes widened. "Wait, no. I'm not leading this 'expedition'. I'm not the leader type."
"But...uhh...you're the only one who knows where Cargield is," Ms. (I'll give her a new nickname) NotSoLoud&Obnoxious said slowly.
"Whatever. Still, you need to lead us there for now."
I blinked. Oh crap. What have I gotten myself into?
One guy elbowed me gently. "You'll do fine, baby," he said, winking at me.
I frowned. "Who are you?"
"Antonio Romano," he said, bowing slightly.
I didn't move. "Stay away from me," I snapped, pushing past him.
"Whoa!" he laughed.
I marched past everyone and towards the forest. I stopped. "Are you guys coming, or what?"
Everyone murmured a yes and began to walk towards me.
I suppressed a smile. "Alright then."
