Toby Johnson

I repressed a sneer at nature-girl's remark about how none of us understood. Was she really so self-absorbed and self-pitying that she thought that she was the only one who didn't have parents or who had to make do with nothing? I shook my head; she had a lot to learn. We all had a lot to learn.

I leaned back against the side of the truck bed to wait out the ride. I thought about trying to climb out the back and around the side to get to the driver but decided against it. Even if, by some feat of amazing proportion, I managed to get to the driver's door and even allowing that I was able to open the door, we would probably just end up crashing before I could get the chance to throw the driver out and take control of the truck. I might have had a small chance of success if there weren't a covering around the truck bed, but even then it would have been small. The only chance of survival was to wait for the truck to stop and then jump out and make a run for it.

The truck finally slowed to a halt and I heard the driver's door open and then close. I crouched by the opening in the back and put my hand against the truck bed, transforming a part of it into a loaded pistol. I had never used a gun before, let alone shot someone; but if I had to then I was completely ready to shoot whoever came to try to capture us. As the man rounded the corner I pressed my gun up to his head.

"Don't move." I growled at him. "I swear I'll shoot you."

The man stopped immediately and slowly raised his hands in a placating gesture.

"Hey now, calm down. We're here to help you."

"Sure you are," I spat, "now throw your staff away from the truck and lay down on the ground."

The man did as he was told and when he was finished I jumped out of the truck and motioned the others out. I tied the man up and took a look around. We were behind some kind of building in the middle of the forest. It was mostly concrete with a flat roof that was covered in camo netting. There didn't seem to be anyone else in sight, but that didn't mean there weren't more of them in the building and out front.

Just as I was about to move around to the front of the car and into the driver's seat so that we could drive out of here purple-eyes decided to pay us a visit and poof-ed in front of me. I immediately trained the pistol on it. "Get out now before I shoot you!" I shouted at it.

"Look they are really hear to help you, you know." It told me with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes. "Yup I'm sure they are, and I am here because you screwed me so now I am getting me and the rest of the people whose lives you've been ruining out of here and back home." I replied snidely before aiming the gun at his leg and firing.

Purple-eyes hissed in pain as it fell to the ground clutching it's leg and I sneered at it. "Now get the hell out of here and stop messing with us before I kill you."

For a few seconds purple-eyes stared at me with wide, surprised eyes before it disappeared to wherever it is that the purple-eyes go when they aren't messing with us directly.

I moved to the back of the truck. "Get back in the truck guys we're getting ou--" I didn't get to finish my sentence when I saw that they were walking off with a group of people toward the building. What the hell were they doing! At this point I was really starting to get pissed off, was everyone really stupid? Why was the whole world against me! I felt something slam into the back of my head and my vision began to dim as I fell to the ground. The last thing I saw as who or whatever it was that had hit me started to drag me toward the building was that there were two of our group still asleep in the back of the truck.

The End
