Ughhh. My head hurts. I feel like someone has used me as a piñata. I'm slumped across two seats, taking both of them up in an awkward position. I don’t know where Gabby is. Oh no. What did I do? The memory comes back to me and I remember her trying to get me to turn her. Did I do it? I don’t know. The last thing I remember is her blood on my lips and then nothingness. I lick my lips, the dried blood on my tongue. I think some of it is mine too, from the burns in the sun. I try to sit up, but I still can’t move. I give up and just lay there, staring at the ceiling for a while until Basilic notices I'm awake.
‘You’re a very lucky vampire, Alex.’ He says, a threatening tone to his voice. ‘I should have killed you back there.’ I try to reply but my mouth is dry, my jaw too stiff. He finds a bottle of water and tips a bit into my mouth. I swallow it gratefully and attempt to reply again.
‘You should have,’ I tell him. He frowns and looks at me seriously. I mirror his expression. ‘I don’t deserve to live, Basilic. It’s ridiculous. I can’t cope with it.’ Basilic’s frown stays put and he moves out of sight. I hear him talking to someone and he comes back.
‘Alex, you know you can control yourself, you managed to before. You just need to keep the creature inside of you in check. I understand being in a confined environment makes it so much harder, but you can do it. You’re not evil, as such. Just... misfortunate.’ He tries to smile, but my expression makes him hesitate. I'm depressed now the way I was depressed when I first changed into this thing.
