Gwendolyn found herself in a dark place. She blinked and looked around, confused.
"Hello? Anyone here?" She called out. The only thing she heard in response was her own echo.
As the echo reverberated, it got louder, and louder, AND LOUDER, AND LOUDER, AND LOUDER, AND LOUDER!!! As if the world around her was begin to shatter and crumble around her.
Suddenly the darkness dissipated and instead a desolate landscape came into view. It was the ruins of the kingdom. Things she recognized, like the library, was laid to waste entirely. Then she turned and saw four monsters, large and powerful, hovering behind her.
"Descendant of our master, you are a threat. You must be destroyed!" The four monsters shouted in unison. Gwendolyn couldn't make out exactly what they were, but she wasn't about to ask: right now, the smart thing was to run.
But no sooner had she taken three steps that suddenly her husband appeared before her. Except... it wasn't him. It looked like him, but his hair was white, and his eyes were filled with dark malevolence. He stared at her for a moment and then smirked... a smirk that made her shudder.
"This is what the future has in store for you, dear child... are you prepared?" The voice coming from Alex sounded... wrong. That was the only way to describe it. And then he wrapped his fingers around her neck and started choking her.
Gwendolyn woke up in a cold sweat, breathing heavily. She was still weak from the operation the doctor gave her, as well as the overuse of her power. But she couldn't stop now. She got out of bed and fell down almost immediately, but she stood up and grabbed a chair for support. She wiped the sweat from her brow and muttered to herself: "I've got to help the others."
She managed to leave the room, and walk down the hallway, but she was tired. Oh so very tired. She managed to reach the stairs when her legs finally gave out and she fell down again, grabbing the railing at the last minute to keep her from violently crashing down the steps.
"Okay... you can do this, Gwen. You can do this... c'mon, you can do this..." She kept saying to herself, managing to stand up again, only to trip on the stairs again and fell.
"AHHHHHHH!!!" She screamed, but her fall was interrupted when she landed in someone's arms.
"My, young lady, you should really watch where you're stepping." The man's voice was very smooth, almost nurturing in a way. She looked up and saw it was one of the leaders of the resistance: Amos Whyte. "Are you okay?"
"I-I'm fine..." Gwendolyn responded, blushing.
