Gwendolyn, having passed out behind the inn, awoke to find herself in a nice bed, with her friend Derrick sitting next to her. "How are you feeling?"
"Pathetic." Gwen replied flatly.
"I just feel like everyone is leaving me behind, that's all. I want to help as much as I can, but... in my current condition, I'd be nothing but a hindrance. I know that... but still..."
Gwen's eyes welled up with tears. Derrick handed her a towel to wipe her face. "It's okay, Gwen. We're just worried about you." Derrick remembered what he said back at the inn to Ryan earlier, and hoped that Gwen did not hear that. Then he rationalized that there was no way Gwen could have heard that, as she was already on her way to the estate by then.
Gwen sighed. "It's a two way street, you know. I'm worried about everyone else too."
"Yes, I know."
Suddenly there came a knock at the door. "You may enter." Derrick responded.
Alex walked in, an upset look on his face. "Thank you, Derrick. I greatly appreciate this."
"You're not the only one who cares about her, you know." Derrick responded, a bit unnerved at how formal Alex was being.
"I know." Alex gave a short bow, and then stood upright again. "Could I have a few moments alone with my wife, please?"
"Alright, but remember the doctor needs to treat her. Also... don't be too hard on her. She just wants to feel useful is all."
"I know, Lord Keane. I know."
Derrick blinked. That was probably one of the few times he has heard Alex call him that, without it sounding sarcastic. Regardless, he walked out and left the two of them alone.
Alex walked over to Gwen and smiled. "How you hanging in there?"
"Oh, I'm hanging... but by my hands or neck, I'm not sure." Gwen responded.
"A little early for gallows humor if you ask me. Anyway, just be sure to lay here and rest. The doctor will see to you shortly."
"I don't like doctors. I can't help but keep think of Arkham whenever I see them."
"Would you like me to stay then?" Alex asked.
"If it's not too much to ask."
"You know it isn't."
Alex and Gwen smiled at each other, and then Gwen said something completely out of the blue. "Aria."
"If I have a baby girl, I think I'll name her Aria. What do you think?"
Alex grabbed Gwendolyn's hand and smiled again. "I think it's a lovely name."
