The weather was cold, a match to my feelings inside. A part of me was really afraid, and questioned my sanity. I was taking a few steps forward towards my death and it didn't disturb me as much as it should. Because I knew I was doing it for a good reason. And that was the only thing that kept me going.
I entered the cafe and felt a twisting sensation within when I realized that who I'd been expecting were already there. Three of the vampires were standing on the other side of the cafe, obviously awaiting my entrance.
"Jade. How great to see you."
I winced at the fake friendliness in the vampire's voice and resisted the urge to run back out of the cafe, back to Ash's house.
"I'm glad to see you didn't bring reinforcements."
I stayed quiet as I stood rooted to the spot in fear, watching them intensely as they took their first steps towards me. The expression on my face must have made them happy since they smiled at me.
"You should send Ash a messagesl David," one of the vampires whispered to the other.
That got me into action. I wasn't scared to speak as I quickly snapped, "Don't pull Ash into this."
Before I could even finish saying so, the vampire who I assumed was name David disappeared from view. I blinked. Where-?
"Too late Jade. I'm afraid this part is necessary."
I glared furiously at the vampire, looking up at him as my hands curled into fists. He grinned at me and shrugged. "What are you going to do? Blast us to pieces?"
"I might as well bloody try," I spat at him. I was about to make use of my power, push my will into it even though I had no real control when I saw Ash appear out of no where in front of me, with David having a tight grip around his arm.
"What the hell are you-"
He froze mid-word when he saw me, going pale.
"Stop it." His words came as a tight whisper, eyes filled with fear.
"What?" Confusion entered me as I saw his expression go from fear to complete anger as he moved forward, thrashing about violently. David held him back, giving me a toothy grin as he read through what I must be feeling.
"What are you doing to him?" I yelled, my gaze not wavering from Ash's pained face.
"Simply creating an illusion. We're planting the image of you being tortured to death. That way he'll be-"
"More vulnerable," I completed. I tried to step forward, shake Ash out of whatever he must be seeing but like they'd done before, it was as if I was paralyzed. I couldn't move at all.
"No Jade. You're not going to interfere in any of this. Besides, I think we've seen enough."
My eyes widened when I felt a cool hand tighten around mine but all I could see was Ash, tears streaming down his face as he continued screaming in my direction. They were going to take me away. But that didn't scare me as much as the thought of what they had planned for him.
