"We should stay here for another night than I'll take you to my fathers." I smile at James like he is a friend I haven't seen in years. He nods and smiles back.

"What's up with the whole family thing? You are distant when you talk about them." As soon as he says that my smile fades. "My family just don't get on with anyone. Not even ourselves. We prefer to be left alone. The less contact with others, the better." I say, my voice weak.

James looks at me. "You prefer to be left alone too?" I smile slightly.

"I don't know. I've been bourght up thinking work is all that matters, nothing else, no one else, matters but I used to know someone who changed that." My smile streches as I think of John.

I shake my head, banishing my memories. "That was then. This is now. This is my new start. No more living in the past." I say, more to myself then to James.

I smile at him. "I would like you to come with me, to your fathers I mean." I shake my head slightly and sigh. "Okay, I will. But if I'm not there one morning don't be surprised. Oh, by the way, the house is kind of my fathers lab. So don't touch anything and don't ask about it." I inform him.

He looks a little confused and I laugh.

"Don't worry, I'll remind you when we get there tomorrow."

My phone starts ringing, making me and James jump. I look at it confused, withheld number. "Sorry 'bout this." I mutter and press the green button.

"Hello?" I ask down the phone.

"May, remember me?"

I open my mouth to reply but nothing comes out. Saying I'm shocked is an understatment.

"Say the word and I'll be wherever you are in seconds, I want to take you to the ball..." Before he could carry on I finally find my voice.

"The ball?"

He chuckles and then the phone goes dead.

I stare at it for a while.

"Mayen are you okay? Who was it?" James asks bringing me back to the present.

"An old friend." I mutter, a confused look on my face. What did he mean by 'I want to take you to the ball' ?

I look down at my baggy T-shirt and short shorts. I shake my head, no way am I going to any ball.

I sit down on the bed next to James and rest my head on his shoulder. I close my eyes while I think. No way he could of been serious, I mean, I haven't talked to him in ages. Why would he take me to a ball?

"If I was you, I would get away from May!" I jump and open my eyes to see John, who I was just on the phone to.

"John? What are you..?" I start but James cuts in.

"And what makes you think I'll do what you say?"

John smiles a little, he always liked to get under peoples skin.

"Do you know who you are talking to?" John takes a step forward and James gets to his feet.

"Do you?"

I jump inbetween both of them. "Oi! You two back off! James, you shouldn't even be looking for a fight in the condition you're in! And John how the hell did you get in here?" I'm not yelling but I'm close too.

James sits back on the bed, scowling at John. John just smiles and looks at me. "I got in with this baby." He lifted up a key and I roll my eyes. I'm having enough of all these keys that open doors thingys!

"Anyway, you are coming with me to the ball. Put on that dress blue dress you wore last time we went dancing." He leans up against the bed post. I scowl at him, fists balled.

I open my mouth to tell him where he can fucking stuff it when someone knocks at the door. No one moves. Someone knocks again, this time more fiercly.

"Mayen Blue open this door now!" My blood runs cold as I hear her voice. I swallow deeply, my sapphire eyes widening. "No." I mutter and shake my head. "No. I thought I got away from her."

"Mayen!" The threat is strong in my step mothers voice. I shake my head, tears coming to my eyes.

The End
