The Coming Storm

As Aria slept peacefully, the old man looked Plantagonox in the eyes. "What I don't understand is how goblins managed to get ahold of the poison they coated on their weapons. This poison is very expensive, very rare, and must be made with the greatest of care. The people who deal in this kind of thing are often very rich and can afford the highest protection available... so goblins shouldn't have access to it..."

Plantagonox stared at the old man, raising one eyebrow in confusion. "What are you saying exactly?"

"That goblins used a poison that, in normal circumstances, they would not have had. Someone must have supplied them with it... that is the only conclusion that makes sense." The old man's face became grave. "And there have been rumors..."

"Of what?" Plantagonox did not like where this was going.

"I don't know if this is true or not, but for a few weeks, a few travelers have come through here, claiming to have seen a man dressed in white armor and black cloth, wearing a bone white mask on his face, covered in blood red runic markings. If that weren't unsettling enough, some travelers who were attacked by goblins claimed to have seen him standing there, like a master surveying the work of his servants. No one knows who he is or what he wants, or even if he even exists. All I know is that the goblins are gathering and have become more coordinated, and the fact that they have a strong poison coating their weapons only makes me more nervous." The old man looked at the sleeping Aria, and shook his head. "Very few survive when that poison enters the body... you were lucky to get her to me so swiftly."

Plantagonox was more concerned about this mysterious masked commander of the goblins. "Do you think this masked man works alone or is league with other powers that defy the Knights Draconic's efforts to maintain peace?"

"I don't even know if the man exists... all I know is that if you meet him, even as a dragon, I would proceed with caution. The travellers say that he must be a powerful warmage in order to command so many goblins to work together and so effectively..." He shook his head. "This reeks of something dark and foul. Dragons, goblins, and a masked man of unknown origin... something else is going on that we don't know about..."
